Sources Say Podcast Ep. 95: Nolan Hickman decommits from Kentucky. What’s next?

KSR’s Jack Pilgrim is joined by Shawn Smith of Go Big Blue Country to discuss Nolan Hickman’s decommitment from Kentucky and what it means for the program moving forward.

Among the highlights:

  • UK currently has no point guards signed for 2021-22
  • Hickman becomes the first player to back out of a letter of intent under John Calipari
  • What led to the decommitment?
  • Breaking down comments from Hickman’s father with KSR
  • Does Kentucky have a replacement (or two) in mind?
  • How fast does Calipari need to move?
  • What news would make Kentucky fans feel better about the decommitment?
  • Calipari can cast a wide net at the position, but he’s got to pull in a few big fish
  • Any other news on the horizon?

I’ve been as big a Coach Cal fan as anyone..but clearly he is losing his grip on the program. Sounds like the grind of recruiting and relationship building with these 17-18 year olds is taking its toll, and he has seemingly lost his touch. We all know he is sort of nuts as a coach to deal with….but it doesn’t appear that kids today relate even a little bit with him any more so it is all on the assistants to do the heavy lifting. The downward trend is real…but is it reversible. I have my doubts…

Let the off season conclude before jumping to any conclusions. We are still a long way away from it being over. The NBA draft isn’t until July.
