We may be 30 minutes from tip-off against EKU, but it’s hard to ignore the game that looms Saturday against North Carolina. In response to a fun, tongue-in-cheek column from John Clay, the Charlotte News Observer’s Andrew Carter wrote a column mocking UK and Calipari’s
one and done succeed and proceed system. For Cats’ fans, it’s extremely repulsive. No paragraph was more vomit-inducing than this one.
Oh, we’re aware of the irony here. A writer from North Carolina — who covers UNC — taking shots at Kentucky? UNC has indeed become a national punchline amid the revelation of a long-running scheme of phony classes that helped keep athletes eligible. Here’s the thing, though: If everyone did it like Kentucky, there wouldn’t even be a need for eligibility beyond one semester. It’s genius.
I guess the guy has a job to do. His job will be even tougher on Saturday, when he’ll have to describe the details of a loss so bad, Tar Heel players’ families will be embarrassed.
