All of the talk coming into this one was about Lonzo Ball and how he’s the greatest thing to UCLA basketball since John Wooden. Ball is very good (although that shot is broke) and he played great in the second half, but TJ Leaf was the star of the game for the Bruins.
Leaf finished with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, 13 rebounds and five assists. For a guy who looks like he should be the walk-on at the end of the bench or playing NAIA somewhere in Pennsylvania, he sure is good.
After the game, John Calipari said, “What Leaf did, basically dominated the game. We had no one, unless I was going to go big lineup, which we haven’t done a whole lot, which shows me maybe we have to be prepared for that. But he killed us. Straight line drives, rebounds, making shots. We left him a couple times. He played.”
Yeah he did.
