The University of Kentucky is… an academic school!
A record-tying SIX athletic teams received NCAA awards based on their latest Academic Progress Rate: men’s basketball, women’s basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, men’s golf and women’s golf. Each of these teams had a collective academic score that ranked in the top 10 percent of Division I schools. The APR assess a team’s academic eligibility, retention and graduation for scholarship players.
The men’s basketball team made the cut for the fifth consecutive year; women’s basketball qualified for the second year in a row.
“To again have nearly a third of our teams achieve top-10 APR scores and receive this national recognition is a testament to the hard work of our students and the commitment our coaches and staff make to support them,” AD Mitch Barnhart said in a press release. “Congratulations to our men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, gymnastics and volleyball teams for earning these awards.”
Back in November, UK Athletics set a record for NCAA Graduation Success Rate, and UK has broken or tied that GSR record every year since 2005, when the NCAA began keeping track of that statistic. UK athletes have posted an overall grade-point average over 3.0 in each of the last 13 semesters.
UK: crushing the competition on the court and in the classroom.
