Luke Winn of SportsIllustrated.com does a solid job with his weekly College Basketball Power Rankings. This week, he ranks Kentucky at No. 6 on his list, trailing Michigan State, North Carolina, Kansas, Oklahoma and Maryland, respectively.
But it’s Winn’s analysis of Kentucky’s ranking that caught my attention this week. He pointed out that Isaiah Briscoe is second on the team in defensive-rebound percentage, which is good for this team because Skal Labissiere is toward the bottom in rebounding in the John Calipari era.
Winn used a chart to show Labissiere is the lightest-rebounding freshman big Cal has had at Kentucky. Only Kyle Wiltjer ranks lower in rebounding percentage for a first-year player. Furthermore, Skal’s 8.9% offensive rebounding is the worst of all 15 forwards and centers.
You can see how all of Cal’s UK freshmen stack up, as well as Winn’s entire rankings, over at SI.com.
