Show ESPN that Kentucky/Louisville is a better rivalry than Duke/UNC

rivalry

Two hours from now, North Carolina and Duke will face off in what people outside the Bluegrass state call the best rivalry in college basketball. To celebrate, ESPN’s SportsNation put up a poll asking readers to weigh in on which is the best rivalry in the sport. Unfortunately, Duke/UNC is running away with it so far:

Well, they won’t be able to watch IU/Purdue and NC/Duke tonight…they’re on at the same time. Hah.

Funny how they run this poll right before their game and after they have hyped the crap out of it for a week.

Just the very thought of IU/Purdue transforms me into a pile of Jello. Oh the excitement and just the sheer number of great stars who have played in that awe inspiring series.

But it isn’t….not even close. If UofL hadn’t won this year, the ratings for the game next year would have plummeted, because Cal has owned Pitino. The overall series is so lopsided in UK’s favor, the only thing that makes it a “rivalry” is the hatred between the in-state fans and the coaches. The UNC-Duke rivalry is unmatched, simply because it’s always a toss-up, and the even records and points totals from the past 96 match-ups prove that.

So who is our biggest rival, North Carolina or Duke?
We have a winning record vs Duke, and a losing record vs North Carolina.
So, how come I hate Duke more? Don’ know.

Winning by a large margin now. The KSR effect.

Sorry, UK/UL is not a better rivalry. Prior to today, Duke and UNC were tied with, what like 45 wins each and the exact same number of points? Ridiculous. Whereas in our case, UK is clearly superior. Far less interesting. I vote for UK/Duke.

    Wait…. sorry, I mean Duke/UNC.

Everyone knows that online polls aren’t actually about the thing they say they’re about; they’re about who has the best fans. This is why we always win.

UK/UofL absolutely destroyed the poll. Good job, guys.

This poll means nothing. Its recency bias. UK-UL game was in december, Duke-NC game is tonight. Skewed results

In college basketball, I’m not afraid to admit that the Duke v. UNC game is a better rivalry, simply because it is a better rivalry. But, that’s only in the vacuum of basketball.

If I’m going to go with the best college sports rivalry? It’s gotta be UK and UofL. Because of that overall hatred that happens in any and every sport. A close second would be Alabama and Auburn.
