Roy Williams just went on a epic rant about ESPN and Chad Ford

As the years go on, Roy Williams becomes more and more like that old man that, once he has a few too many or is just in a bad mood, tees off on an epic rant about the world. This afternoon, Williams went off on ESPN and Chad Ford for the importance they put on players’ NBA Draft stock, or “the green room.” In true Daggum Roy fashion, it was hilarious:

I don’t think I have to be perfect friends with TV either. I think ESPN is our (ACC) partner, and I’ve got to watch on TV where somebody’s college basketball games and they’re talking about the freaking green room? That’s the most ridiculous thing. And that’s one of my partners? That’s half the damn broadcast: ‘Well, so-and-so’s in the green room.’

And this is a great time for me to be saying something about it. Because they ain’t mentioning any of my guys, OK. But God almighty, you’re sitting there, you’re trying to win championships, and here it is, January, and ESPN’s talking about some green room and some Chad Ford or who it is and his (projections) — that’s the most ridiculous thing we’re having to put up with in college basketball.

TV drives everything and again, hey, to all those other guys — get ’em, take ’em, go. They’re not talking about any of my guys. But that’s the reason why I feel more comfortable in saying something about it. But I mean, seriously, we’re trying to win conference championships, we’re saying college basketball means something.”

It really pisses Roy off because ESPN’s the only channel he watches. No, really. Stop giving him all your TV recs, your AMC shows, your HBO series, heaven forbid a Netflix or Amazon original. The TV (tube, natch) in the Williams house stays tuned to ESPN.

And here ESPN, one of our partners, and the only channel that works on my television. I’m going to guarantee you, guys, I don’t know, y’all can tell me your favorite program. I don’t know one program you’re going to list. If it’s not on ESPN, I don’t watch it.

And don’t even get him STARTED on Michigan State’s neon green uniforms.

And then I’m thinking — God almighty, I’m watching games last night — green room? Damn, I was looking around, I saw Michigan State wearing some ugly green uniforms the other day and I thought, ‘I thought Tom [Izzo] had a great deal of power.’ He’s got a whole green room now and then I realized they were talking about college players in the pro draft. We haven’t even had the dadgum — ah, that’s enough. It’s the most ridiculous freaking thing I’ve ever seen. And put it in capital letters and send it to ESPN. And tell them if they want me to tell them privately what the crap I think of them, I’ll do that.

At this point, Roy came out of his rant, looked around and asked “How’d we get on that?”. I have no idea, but you keep doing you, Roy, because that was epic.

I can’t stand that cheating S.O.B. Roy Boy. It is over Roy. You have no recruits and the Carolina Way has been exposed. I have WAY more respect for coach K who is one of the all time greats and the pressure of UK, Kansas and Duke have far surpassed his cheating ways. Bye Roy, you need to be fired.

I completely agree with him. The next time I hear the words “green room guy” on ESPN I’m gonna puke. It’s obviously a buzzword pushed by ESPN market in recently cause every analysts says it three or four times a broadcast. Let them develop. Skal as a top five? Gimme a break. Just shut up and watch them play.

Why is NC allowed to play basketball? And why hasn’t Roy Boy been fired?

So let me get this straight..
This 60 something multi-Millionaire is pissed because ESPN decided to run a feature on some select college kids with NBA potential who could soon bring themselves and their families out of generational poverty?
