The past few weeks have been rough for Kentucky’s haters. As thrilling as the recent tournament run was for the Big Blue Nation, it was equally frustrating for rival fanbases – whose hopes of a UK loss sank with each of Aaron Harrison’s clutch 3-pointers. They were able to gain some satisfaction when the Wildcats were defeated in the title game and another mass exodus of talent seemed likely. However, this feeling was short-lived.
With six of UK’s eight possible pros deciding to return to school, Kentucky will once again be the preseason favorite to win next season’s National Championship. The Harrison twins were the final holdouts, but their announcement yesterday ensured that the Wildcats would be ridiculously loaded and caused some opposing fanbases to enter a slight depression. Below are a few posts from several rivals’ message boards after the twins decided to forego the draft. While the term “40-0” should probably never be mentioned again, some of these are pretty great.
MIke8989: “what a team they will have. Could be his best yet.”
Swat30: “Not just Calipari’s….but maybe Kentucky’s. ”
Sundown: “It looks like Cal has tons of talent again next year. It will be interesting to see if the incoming freshman will be happy with this. Perhaps the pipeline is getting a little clogged, which could lead to problems. Anyway, is it time to print another run of 40-0 t-shirts?”
LobsterPinch: “Wow, now that team has a chance to go undefeated next year. Can’t stand UK but very impressed with the decision making of the guys who were considering the NBA, and the sacrifice they were willing to make – in terms of playing time and potential draft position – in order to come back for another year.”
aah555: “UK unquestionably has the best roster in college b-ball — and it’s really not very close. They’re going to have 8 former 5* recruits on their roster, 5 of whom are soph. or older, + Willey Cauley Stein, who would have been a mid-first rounder this year. Probably the most impressive collection of raw talent (at least depth of raw talent) that I’ve seen since the college teams of the mid-90s. We’ll see how it all fits, but it would be a mild upset if they’re not cutting the nets down.”
Casey Rybeck: “Oh Crap.“
rockchalkin81: “lovely. admit it or not, but there goes another freaking final 4 for them.”
Pritchard: “Yeah, right, Cal has nothing to with Kentucky’s success. Geez…..Guy has been to Final Fours at 3 different schools. He has been to 3 Final Fours in 5 years at Kentucky. I am certainly no Kentucky fan, but this guy is elite as it gets.”
WhatWouldJesusDo?: “If all those guys are on the team, that has to be the most awesome front line collection ever. Seriously, not joking. That’s some amazing talent.”
TeamCarolina71: “This may be Cal’s best team he has had since being at uk. Gotta give him props, he knows his stuff whether you like it or not.”
DSouthr: “Personally, with all the ballyhoo of the last Ky class being “the best of all time”, I think their incoming class is much better than their last years class was.. Scary prospect, hope the 2yr rule allows this class to go ahead and leave after one…”
