Rick Pitino is impressed by how humble UK is

(…which makes me laugh because Pitino talking about humility is funny. Moving on…)

After UofL’s win Tuesday night, Rick Pitino was asked whether or not UK’s platoon system will cause him to change his defensive game plan to deal with two sets of players. Pitino shook his head and said no. “They’re just going to play 10 great players,” Pitino told reporters, launching into a line of compliments about the Cats. “But they’re a great team. We have a lot of respect for them. I’m very impressed at how humble they are that they would dedicate themselves to being a team and not worry about minutes. They’re just playing great basketball, and that’s a tribute to their coaching staff, it’s a tribute to their players. There’s no ego there, they’re just playing basketball.”

Rick said that Louisville lost last year’s game because UK won the rebounding battle at the end, especially against their guards. “Our guards cost us in that game last year. They stood out there and let them rebound four vs. three,” Pitino said. He’s expecting more of the same from UK on the boards tomorrow. “They’re one of the better teams I’ve witnessed in quite some time on the backboards as well as defensively. They’re so long.”
