Last week, Memphis officially replaced former Kentucky head coach Tubby Smith with local legend Penny Hardaway.
Almost immediately, an all-star cast of talent was being thrown around to join Hardaway’s class, with UK assistant coach Tony Barbee being one of those candidates.
According to 247 Sports’ Chris Fisher, however, Barbee is not a candidate and will not be headed to Memphis.
Kentucky assistant coach Tony Barbee is not a candidate for the same position at Memphis, 247Sports has learned.
There have been rumors that there may be a shakeup on the coaching staff this summer to help regain some momentum in the recruiting department, and there are whispers Barbee may be the guy to leave. UofL also reportedly asked for permission to interview Kentucky assistant coach Kenny Payne, but Chris Mack remains the heavy favorite to replace David Padgett.
Speaking of Tubby Smith, he is reportedly in talks to become the next head coach at High Point University, his alma mater.
