REPORT: NBA Insider speculates Reid Travis to UK

As we wait to hear what the future holds for P.J. Washington, Jarred Vanderbilt and Wenyen Gabriel, one NBA Insider is reporting that Kentucky will add a grad transfer to the frontcourt.

Jordan Schultz, a Yahoo NBA Insider that hosts a podcast with C.J. McCollum, Tweeted that Stanford’s Reid Travis is expected to take his name out of the NBA Draft for one more year of college.

Multiple sources are speculating that PF Reid Travis is returning to school — but, in Lexington, KY. Would become a graduate transfer at and an enormous addition for the Wildcats, if true. Talented big man averaged 19.5 points, 8.7 rbs for the Cardinal.

Schultz’s report is carefully worded: “Multiple sources are speculating.”  The speculation is not really new.  We’ve known for quite some time that Stanford’s leading scorer could become a graduate transfer.  However, this is the first time an outside outlet has confirmed the speculation swirling around Lexington.

This report adds fuel to the fire that Travis will become a Wildcat, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to see if that comes to fruition.

UPDATE (10:45)

Jeff Goodman now reports that Travis will withdraw from the NBA Draft.

Evan Daniels is reporting the same.

That means he knows that at least one of our forwards is leaving. If not two.

      10:52 am May 30, 2018 Permalink

Yeah, unless Cal can pull a 1-yr scholly out of his arse, something has to give.

The problem I see with the grad transfer thing, is a kid has only the 1 year to learn a new system, new staff, and try to build chemistry with a bunch of freshmen doing the same thing. But at the very least, we’ll add some more muscle and height….plus 5 fouls…to our front court. Eloy Vargas 2.0 at the absolute worst.

This kid averaged 19 points a game. At NCAA level, eloy vargas hes not. That’s not giving this kid enough credit.

3 games this August, plus extra practice time leading up to the Bahamas trip will help tremendously. The stars seem to be aligning.

So how do you compare the grad transfer thing vs. one and done freshmen? I don’t really like it that kids from non power 5 schools can leave their school in the lurch to play their final year at a power 5 school. However, doesn’t adding a kid like this mix in more experience, maturity, physicality that many say we lack with so many freshmen? The freshmen have to learn a new system and staff…kind of nice to have a kid that has played 100 or so D-1 games already. 19 points, nearly 9 rebounds per game in PAC 12 is NOT Eloy 2.0!!

You are selling Reid Travis way short. A guy smart enough to get into Stanford who averaged almost 20 ppg, and is pulling out of the draft to transfer to UK (we hope) to play a role in what could be a special team? Yes, please!

      11:06 am May 30, 2018 Permalink

That’s why I said “at the absolute WORST”. I was reiterating the fact that we would at LEAST get the muscle, height and 5 fouls, like we did with Vargas. Also, it’s not like he’s going to come in and get the 34 mpg he got at Stanford he’ll be competing for minutes just like everyone else. He could work his way into the starting lineup for sure, but Cal wouldn’t just promise it to him.
The kid didn’t get an invite to the combine, despite being NBA prototype size, AND putting up those numbers at Stanford. THAT is why he wants to be at UK for a year.

Travis has been around college for 3 years . He can still show the ropes and the grind and what it takes to play at a high levelto the young players uk has coming in.He can step in and not only be a new guy he can also contribute on the Court.Anyone who thinks this is a bad ideal has got to be a joke opinion. I will say this tho . Is his speed of the game up to par with how fast we want to push the ball up the court this year? (PJ is gone?) UK needs this brusier downlow also. To many thin centers.

Not only are you selling him short, but you’ve obviously never watched him play and know nothing about his game. While playing 34 mpg last year, Travis only fouled out of three games. Not a single one after February 1.

      2:20 pm May 30, 2018 Permalink

ukmcky…WTF are you talking about? I never even said anything whatsoever about him “fouling out”. Go take your meds….or lay off the illegal ones.

“Plus 5 fouls” sounds like you just want him to come in and be physical and do nothing but foul like many of our inexperienced big men have done in the past. Not what Travis would do. I’m just stating the facts

I don’t have any but share with me whatever you’re taking that makes you compare Reid Travis to Eloy Vargas, even in the worst case scenario. It must be good.

Worst case scenario is he gets hurt. If he stays healthy, he’s at worst freshman PJ Washington. And that’s being modest.

Have to expect idiots like yourself who know NOTHING about running a web site. You pay the bills by advertising dollars idiot!!Every damn site you read on the web has ads so why don’t you do the world a favor and stop reading any web page since they all “whore themselves out for advertisement dollars? You are not a UK fan but a entitled troll!!

The timing of this is ironic after the Julius Mays post yesterday. This is HUGE! Makes me believe P.J. is leaving but if he comes back, man… Maybe more importantly which no one realizes is that if he wasn’t coming here he probably would’ve went to Duke, and Duke really needed him!

And i have heard the other wildcats team (Nova) is / was a strong contender as well.

    @ crazycatfan65

I don’t know who you think you are…but you’re not.

First, I do indeed know how running a “web site” works. I also know how to spell website. I also know to use ABP and UBlock Origin on all of my browsers, so I don’t have to contend with ads myself.
Having ads isn’t the sin ; it’s the type, amount, and annoying placement that makes the difference between a respectable ad-based website, and one like KSR. That, combined with clickbait headlines (which is EXACTLY what they are), then stealth-editing them after they get “busted” on it (like they did with this article already), is what makes KSR look bad.

Second, I am not a troll. I merely speak the truth, good or bad, while remaining objective. I’m not some brainwashed zombie, like the jackasses that voted for our “POTUS”. Everything I said about Reid and his potential of joining the ’18-’19 UK squad is 100% true. Bookmark this thread, and comeback to it mid-season, and you’ll see.

Why did none of the KSR staff mention Travis when making their predictions about PJ/Vando/Wenyen? Plenty of talk about how PJ and Vando’s return means Wenyen won’t get enough minutes next year. Now Travis might be joining the team? We can’t possibly have room in the front court, can we?

Maybe Vando redshirts. Maybe Wenyen transfers. Maybe we lose 2 of the 3 we’re watching today. Or maybe Travis goes to Nova and we’re back where we were this morning.

No one knew what was going on before. Somehow I think we know even less now. Can’t wait for 11:59 pm so we’ll have a little clarity.
