Jon Rothstein, Twitter’s favorite college basketball source-guy, reports that Kentucky has a new addition to the 2017-18 non-conference schedule. The Cats will reportedly host East Tennessee State at Rupp Arena.
Hailing from Johnson City, Tennessee, last year the Buccaneers won the Southern Conference Tournament after a first-place regular season finish to advance to their first NCAA Tournament since 2010. They lost to Florida 80-65 in the First Round.
The Bucs are coached by Steve Forbes. The former Wichita State assistant turned a 16-14 team into second-place SoCon finishers in his first year, followed by the NCAA Tournament appearance in his second year. Forbes lost six seniors off last year’s team, including Indiana transfer/human pun Peter Jurkin.
Here’s what the non-conference schedule will look like after the addition of the Buccaneers:
- November 14 vs. Kansas (Champions Classic)
- TBD vs. ETSU
- December 2 vs. Harvard
- December 9 vs. Monmouth (MSG)
- December 16 vs. Virginia Tech
- December 23 vs. UCLA (CBS Sports Classic)
- TBD vs. Louisville
- January 27 at West Virginia (SEC/Big 12 Challenge)
