Report: Brad Calipari is in the transfer portal

Apparently we aren’t done with 2019-20 roster news after all. According to Al.com’s Matt Zenitz, Brad Calipari has entered the transfer portal.

The possibility of Brad transferring has been mentioned before. He redshirted this past season and graduated from Kentucky earlier this month, so he will have two years of immediate eligibility left. John Calipari even mentioned the option in an interview with Jim Rome during the tournament.

“He can go to another school, a smaller school where he’ll play more,” Cal said, before adding he believes Brad will stay at Kentucky.

Will Brad finish his college career at Kentucky or go to a school where he can get more playing time? If it’s the latter, somebody on the team needs to step up their sartorial game.

Wouldn’t blame him at all. He needs to do is best for him. I don’t think this affects Cal staying at UK at this point. Best of luck to him!

No he couldn’t. Not being mean, but he is a small, small time college type player. Doesn’t mean he’s terrible, but he is lowest level of college talent. Wish I had that opportunity after high school, so I’m not hating, just being real.

No. Not sure he can play significant minutes at Centre or Transy….

    1) Normally the talk is about there being “noise” around the player convincing them to leave for supposedly greener pastures. In Brad’s case, where is that “noise” coming from?

    2) With that said though, can’t blame him if he can go to another school and get more playing time for two years.

    3) Have to wonder how much the complaining about what he wore to games played into it. Is that kind of scrutiny worth it to him?

    4) Everyone needs to back off him, and his sisters, and let him make his decision.

Ellen might want to go with him so she can lay out his clothes for school. In all honesty Brad couldn’t play for Lindsey Wilson.

You’ve seen the way he dresses, right? You think Ellen is picking that stuff out?

And in all honesty he could play for LW. If you’re going to insult someone, be better at it.

All due respect, he wouldn’t play all that much at LWC. That’s not an insult, just a reality.

    • KKC, that’s so very magnanimous of you. What did Brad ever do to you man? Like someone said above, lay off the young man. I work at an NAIA school and I can say that he CAN play for one. Higher than that? I don’t know enough to say, but don’t act like his shooting couldn’t help some smaller school.

    • And for all the goofy clothes he wore, that classic satin Starter jacket is on FI-YAHHH!!!
      (insert numerous fire emojis here)

Regardless of what he does, I wish him the best. Seems like his best option would be to stay at UK, become a grad assistant, then start a coaching path. But anyone that age wants to play, too, so I can’t blame him for going to a smaller school.

Disagree. I actually think if he wants to get into coaching, going elsewhere is the best move for him (and if he can get some playing time, great). Go see how other coaches and programs are run. He already knows how UK does things and UK’s systems — it’s beneficial to understand how others do things and to be able to take from and build upon different experiences. He’ll always have access to his dad — time to expand his own network.

He wants to play and I think he will play at a smaller D1 program. I wish him well.

If you want to upset a parent (Cal & Ellen) just talk trash about their kids. No reason at all to bash Brad’s athletic ability. How many of you are better?

You have to admire this young man’s ability to handle being the son of a famous Father, who does take a ton of pressure and criticism (from those who get Kentucky Basketball) and yet the young man stays strong and mature.

Whatever Brad Calipari decides to do, I wish him the absolute BEST in his education and career: he’s a great reflection of his two classy parents!

Now… if Brad does leave, can Coach PROCESS be too far behind?

It makes sense if he wants to leave. He has probably learned everything he is going to learn both about playing and coaching from his dad (and it’s not like that source goes away). He could go to a smaller D-1 school and get a good setup to play and then be a grad assistant and then maybe an assistant. Somewhere like Sanford or Manhattan that has a UK link would make sense.
