Reid Travis says Nate Sestina is exactly what next year’s team needs

Last week, Kentucky got a commitment from Nate Sestina, a grad transfer from Bucknell, and judging by today’s Kentucky Sports Radio, Reid Travis played a big part in making that happen. During his interview this morning, Reid said he hosted Sestina during his visit and made sure to answer any questions the big man had about coming to Kentucky.

“As soon as he got on campus, I was the one to host him, rightfully so. I felt like I was the gate keeper, trying to explain to him how the grad year works and what he could expect and the kind of things I learned throughout the year. I was able to sit down with his family and him and talk a lot, for about two days while he was on campus.

“I think everyone should be excited about him getting on campus. He’s a hard-playing guy, very humble, down to earth. Obviously he had success last year at Bucknell so I’m excited for him. I think he’s going to be a great piece. He’s definitely exactly what we need for next year’s team.”

It’s not fair to compare Sestina to Reid, but hearing these comments makes me feel even better about what he’ll bring to the program.

Nah, dookies all have faces you want to punch, Laettner, Bilas, G.Allen, Redick, Kennard, Plumlee.
This kid looks like he’s ready to rumble.

rg, I see you did include Laettner.

NYCCatsFan, are you trying to become a punchable UK “fan?” If so, good job.

Naturally, anyone says anything remotely bad about a UK player, he’s automatically castigated (look it up)

Why would a UK fan want to come on here to say bad things about a UK player, NYCCatsFan? Expect to be castigated if you do that.

Better castigation (yeah, I know what it means) than castration (look it up).
Anybody have a Tri-bander? (look than one up, too, Mr NYC)

NYC’s subconscious is just telling everyone where he hoped the kid ended up so he could root for him next year.

Big picture, graduate transfers might be the missing piece the One-and-Done system needs to really thrive more consistently.

Bottom line, the done-and-one’s job is to bring the intangibles of experience and maturity to a young team. He seems like he fits the bill, and I believe it even more because Reid says so.

It’s not fair to compare… But we will. We always do. And we talk about how unfair it is while we are doing it.

I don’t expect Reid’s physical game; but, he has a nice stoke from the 3 line; should loosen things up for E.J. and Nick.

With UK’s strength team getting a hold of him I believe he may have a bigger impact than what some are giving him credit for.

Have never seen him play. Hope he brings good experience. One thing I like about him already he can shoot F/T’s maybe he can teach the others.

You know what’s great about this article and I didn’t see anyone else mention it? If you did, I apologize, but I was immediately happy when I heard Reid refer to next year’s team as “we”! A guy who was here one year, who put his heart and soul into everything, really gets it. Reid May have spent four years at Stanford, but he’s a Cat forever now. Really going to miss him.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read it. Even though he will be gone he still refers to next years team as we. Pretty cool.

He has performed well against D1 competition and at this point the Pac 12 is so bad Reid’s competition may be comparable. 🙂

Funny, I don’t see a Duke face. Looks more like and Indiana or Mich St. white guy with a buzz cut and sports goggles. As someone who’s worked in finance in Tokyo and and currently has a Wall Street office, I can say unequivocally that he does not have a Wall Street look to him.

Calipari should hire Travis as an assistant coach and recruiting guru. Degree from Stanford? You know he’s smart, he’s a peer and can talk to young kids and he can ball and it’s obvious he loves BBN!!
