Always a nice win over the cards. #L1C7

Apparently we had two good actors in the Yum! Center. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Jones. Flop.

Thought about you during the game Saturday, Delk. Knew you’d be happy Andrew was having a bad game and supporting your argument.

In this particular game, he was, but we still need Andrew playing the point going into March. Fact is we need BOTH of them. And I see no reason for Cal to mess with the lineup right now because we are playing well – I think Tyler is fine playing with the white platoon. Why shake things up and chance screwing up the team chemistry? I think the fans need to lay off the comparison of the players against each other. What’s next – are you going to ask if Towns should be playing in place of Willie since he had a better game Saturday? Every player on this team is valuable.

That’s my point too RCF. Tyler was AMAZING, but that’s no reason to down Andrew. We are winning, winning, winning, and the players are having fun, so let’s just enjoy this and let Cal worry about who plays when.

    • Delk for 3
      10:28 am December 29, 2014 Permalink

To be honest, I want Andrew to play his best. I like the kid, but I just have always felt his game had some major shortcomings as a PG. When he plays his best, he is solid. The thing about Ulis is that when he’s at his best, he’s spectacular. Ulis is just a special, special talent that I don’t feel like has received his proper due from this show and from many of the fans. I think he has been underestimated ever since he signed on last year. I still don’t think he is getting his due respect. We talk about the team’s best players, and this show still doesn’t consider him as one. I think that’s ridiculous. I personally think Ulis will have a long and prosperous career as an NBA PG and will go down as one of the better players to come from this team.

    • Delk for 3
      10:31 am December 29, 2014 Permalink

RCF — If you still can’t tell Ulis is flat-out the better PG, I don’t know what to tell ya’. I guess I’d just advise you to keep watching because it’s only going to be more apparent as the season goes on. It’s also going to be more apparent that Ulis needs to be in when the game is tight in the second half.

I just hope we get Tyler for at least a couple years. I think Andrew is worrying about his draft stock again instead of just playing the game and letting it come to him. Maybe his dad needs to have another heart-to-heart talk with him. I hope he gets it together, because I think he is a good kid – just needs to approach things with a more mature attitude.

    • J-Dub421

Andrew did not play well Saturday, yet he still had 4 assists. 3 more than Chris Jones, and the entire U of L team. Lol.

      10:37 am December 29, 2014 Permalink

how can you say Ulis is getting the respect from fans? i see in the comments section all the time people saying he is their favorite player. also see on ksr posts the writers talking about him a ton. also, he had 26 min to Drew’s 20 min against loserville, so what else do you want?

    • Realme
      10:37 am December 29, 2014 Permalink

It’s possible to give Tyler his due without constantly criticizing Andrew. He’s a kid, and not perfect. So what? That doesn’t mean he isn’t extremely important to the success of this team. We would not be where we are if we didn’t have BOTH of our point guards doing their thing.

Cracka — You’re right. It’s not fair for me to say that about “many of the fans”. I know many of the fans love Ulis and recognize how good he is. I guess most of what I’m referring to comes from this show and its host. I just think he’s one of the nation’s five best PGs, but yet this show tries to keep his status down in favor of not hurting Andrew’s feelings, and in an attempt to keep his stock higher. Part of it is because this show has always been touting Andrew as a great PG and a future NBA player.

    • J-Dub421
      10:50 am December 29, 2014 Permalink

Just out of curiosity I went and looked up their season averages, Ulis has fewer turnovers for the season than Andrew, but Andrew has more assists.

    • sammydog
      12:06 pm December 29, 2014 Permalink

I think it depends on the matchup as to who is the better point guard at any given time. There are times when it is Andrew due to his size. He is better when opposition is in man to man. Tyler is better when we need to carve up a zone. There are times when Tyler’s size can be a problem. There are other matchups when his size is an asset. In general I think Tyler sees the court better and is a better passer. He also has a killer mentality because of his size always being underestimated and having to scrap and claw for respect. If this issue of Tyler vs Andrew becomes a very public discussion with fans and experts loudly taking sides it will destroy the team psychology and togetherness. This is “the clutter” Cal is trying to get rid of. I don’t want to be a participant in promoting clutter to the detriment of the team just to prove Matt Jones wrong. Matt is a good performer/entertainer and had made a career for himself in sports but he is no expert on basketball or football. Most UK fans know more about the game than he does. I cringe when does he his two minute sports talk segment on TV. He just states the obvious.

      http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/2011-05-04/rules-committee-recommends-change

      Fouls language

In other action, the committee changed the nomenclature on fouls that are deemed more severe than a “common” foul.

The terms “Flagrant 1” and “Flagrant 2” will now be used in these situations. A Flagrant 1 foul takes the place of an intentional foul and the Flagrant 2 foul replaces the previous flagrant foul.

An example of a Flagrant 1 foul would be a player who swings an elbow and makes non-excessive contact with an opponent above the shoulders. The team whose player was struck would receive two free throws and possession of the ball.

Previously, this type of foul was called an intentional foul. The committee wanted to move away from the word “intentional,” because a player’s intent was never the point to the rule.

“We want to be clear on the language so no one is confused,” Brey said. “The reason we used intentional last year was to increase the penalty. It didn’t have anything to do with intent.”

An example of a Flagrant 2 foul would be a player who swings an elbow excessively and makes contact with an opponent above the shoulders. In this case, the player who threw the elbow would be ejected from the game, and the other team would receive two free throws and the ball.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:40 am December 29, 2014 Permalink

Realme, sounds like it should have been a foul. Also, the fact that a flagrant-2 results in automatic ejection points to the bad intent that Jones had with his flops – his intent was to sell the foul as an F2 and get his opponent ejected. IMO, if a player is caught faking an F2, HE should be the one that gets ejected.

i was referring to the elbow ulis was hit with … the commentators said cal was asking them to go to the monitors and see if it was an elbow to the face that caused the cut … it was, it was not an intentional elbow, which by those rules, means it was a flagrant 1 … you swing an elbow + the contact is non-excessive above the defenders shoulders + intent doesn’t matter = flagrant 1

    • Realme
      11:51 am December 29, 2014 Permalink

Yes, that’s what I thought during the game about the elbow Ulis took. Not intentional, but an elbow. RCF, I would love it if they would have a flopping rule in college like they do in NBA. Seems like Jones could have at least got a delay of game penalty for being so eggregious.
