ICYMI: The highlight of the Sacramento Kings vs. New Orleans Pelicans preseason matchup in Rupp Arean Saturday night, was quite possibly one of the best players on Earth, Anthony Davis, getting dunked on by Demarcus Cousins.
But, according to Davis there is no hard feelings. He expects the best from his friend, Boogie.
In his postgame interview, the former Wildcat said Boogie is the “one guy I look forward to going against every time we play. We bring the best out of each other.”
Davis had high praise for the fans that packed Rupp Arena Saturday, telling reporters he felt like he was back in college again and enjoyed hearing the cheers from the crowd.
Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry told the media that he wasn’t surprised to see a full house in Rupp Arena on Saturday during a post game interview.
“I mean I watched them sell out a practice the other night,” he laughed. “It doesn’t surprise me when it comes to basketball here… What Coach Cal has done here is amazing. If you are in high school and Kentucky is looking at you, there is no question where you are going.”
Gentry also said that while he has been at Kansas, Rupp Arena is on steroids compared to the house of the Jayhawks.
“You can just tell how the players are here. They have created this culture and the fans love them.”
Boogie, in turn, said he loved playing against his “good friend, Anthony” and the loyalty shown by UK fans made him feel like he never left Kentucky. When asked by reporters if he expected the game to sell out, Cousins answered: “Absolutely.”
Cousins helped his Kings defeat Davis’ Pelicans 107-98 at Rupp.
