Well, get ready. The national media is about to start up all that crazy talk of John Calipari leaving for the NBA…again.
That’s right. This morning it was announced that the Brooklyn Nets have fired head coach Lionel Hollins. Nets’ GM Billy King was also demoted, leaving the door open for CEO Brett Yormark to control the next hire. In case you missed it, Yormark recently made public who he wants to coach his Nets. Yep, you guessed it. John Calipari.
It’s no secret that Coach Calipari and Brett Yormark are close friends. Just last month, this article on ESPN.com told the story of their friendship throughout both of their careers. It does make you stop and wonder, ‘is this really possible?’ To make things worse, Yormark was recently quoted that he would offer Calipari “everything under the sun” to bring him in.
Despite Yormark’s comments, is it really worth it for Calipari to leave Kentucky?
The Nets have been terrible, and even worse, they traded away their 2016 and 2018 1st round draft picks to Boston. It’s almost coaching suicide to accept a job without two of your next three 1st round picks. How do you suppose to rebuild a team like that?
I imagine we’ll see a tweet from Coach Cal soon that puts these rumors to rest.
