Pitt fires Kevin Stallings

Today in news that won’t surprise you: Pitt has fired Kevin Stallings, according to Jon Rothstein.

Stallings has been at Pitt for two seasons, leading the Panthers to an unbelievably horrible 8-24 record, 0-18 in the ACC. As you can read in that graphic up there, that 18-game losing streak was the longest in school history and Pitt was the only Division I team in the country to not win a conference game this season. Woof.

This clip seems even more fitting today:

A couple of weeks ago when they played Virginia, they only made four 2-point baskets the entire game. Seven 3-pointers and four 2-pointers. How does that even happen?

He should have been fired after his team only scored 45 points against Syracuse. How do you only score 45 points against a 2-3 zone!?

His overall record as a head coach ( 479–324 (.597) ) is not much different from Jay Wright ( 379-229 (.623) ). This just appears to be a case of a bad fit, coaching style or personality wise. Not that I would want him at UK by any means. He is not a great coach, but his record indicates he’s not as dreadful as this year’s results seem to indicate.

Agree. He is a solid coach as evidenced by hit time at Vandy. Again, not great, but he is better than that 0-18 ACC record.

BIG culture change for Stallings I’m sure. He came from a Vandy program which required high IQ, disciplined guys, to a Pitt program where recruiting is also difficult, but WITHOUT the discipline he was accustomed to. Tough to win big at either place considering all the circumstances AND the competition they face every year.

I live in Nashville and I met him once at the airport. He was really nice and very normal. He was catching a regular flight to go see his son play baseball. Vanderbilt should have just kept him. They won’t be great ever and if they do have one or two great seasons, the coach will leave for a better job.

Stallings never recruited like the current Vandy coach has. He’s got 2 five star players and a four star player for next years class. According to 247, Stallings got 1 five star player during his tenure at Vandy. That player was Jordan Jenkins who is essentially from Nashville.

I’m not a Stallings fan by any stretch of the imagination. I thought he was whiny and petty when at Vandy. With that said, I recently read an article that when they hired him at Pitt the team was mostly made up of walk-ons. There were low expectations for the first couple of years but I guess they weren’t low enough.

I’m shocked….that they waited this long to fire him.

He went from a JV Basketball league (SEC) to a REAL Basketball league (ACC). Nuff said. . . Smh. . .

There you are DennyC. You still mad about the banner coming down? Let’s see where to start….Wasnt it an SEC team that beat dUKe (an ACC team) in the round of 32 last season? Didn’t dUKe have the most talent in the country last season? But enough of that. How is UofLittleBrothel doing? LMAO!

    • Hey Denny, enjoy the new Louisville fight song:

Only thing real about the ACC (All Cheat Conference) is they all cheat, some get punished and some don’t. At least your dumpster fire of a program is the first at something. Getting the title stripped, seems like the word stripped works well in many ways with LittleBro.

The Pac 1? and SEC have more NCAA titles than the ACC, but good try I guess?
