Penny Hardway wants a Memphis-UK series

Will Kentucky have a new home-and-home on its basketball schedule?

If Penny Hardaway has his way, it will.

Hardaway told a Memphis radio station he hopes to add Kentucky to Memphis’ schedule. “I’m trying to get a home and home with Cal,” Hardaway told the show. “Cal promised me if I became a head coach we’d get something set up.”

Cal may be having second thoughts about that promise, now that Hardaway is in his old seat in Memphis. Cal isn’t exactly loved in that city, and it would make for the most hostile environment he’s ever seen. Cal already hates playing in true road environments in the non-conference schedule, so I can’t imagine he’d be eager to return to FedEx Forum, where he was once king.

But if this thing gets set up, sign me up for a seat in Calipari’s return to Memphis.

This kind of game is what our freshmen need. Hostile environment, quality opposition, nothing huge happens if we win/lose, but enough pressure to test us.

Cal returning to Memphis just to beat them would be incredible.

I’m down. I know Cal doesn’t like them, but that non-conference home schedule needs some beef. We need at least one home-and-home besides UofL and the Big XII-SEC challenge.

Ohio St, Cincinnati, Memphis, Virginia all would be great series to have on the schedule.

Set it up in Louisville and Nashville. Neutral sites, and UK would still have majority fan base

That would be the only way it happens. There’s nothing to gain from a non-conference home/home series and plenty to lose. Otherwise, Tom Crean might still be at IU and they’d still be 1-500,000 against UK.

Rather us a play a good team that helps our SOS. Penny is just trying to get Memphis back on the radar. Serves no purpose to go to Memphis just so they can hate on Cal.

Oh, I’m STUNNED Penny wants us to come to Memphis to play! Hell, who doesn’t want KY to come play at their place? We’re everybody’s Super Bowl. We have absolutely ZERO to gain by playing Memphis anywhere but Rupp. ZEEEEEERO!!!

Tell Penny we can work this out if he does not try to get Wiseman or Jeffries…

Agree on the idea of playing neutral site, nothing to gain playing another home-home series with a team especially with how tough the SEC is becoming.

Considering the talent that we have escorted into the NBA, I’d say we don’t have a lot to show for it. Is it Cal’s job to provide the NBA with lottery picks or win National Championships at UK?

Penny can go prove he can win consistently at the college level, then we might consider playing Memphis.

Didn’t the Memphis officials and fan base bow up and stop the idea of Cal returning for some event? What has happened to change that atmosphere?

We do not need to go to Memphis, it would only be creating another Bloomington, IN environment. And if Penny is unable to recruit the best of the best he will be GONE in less than 5 seasons. Does anyone know if he can (seriously) coach?

That would get wiseman and Jeffries to Memphis bc their conference is ok …but no UK on the schedule. So that would give exposure to these kids if we accept. Don’t give it to them. They want to play the best so come to UK won’t happen in Memphis. That’s how you exercise your power when your top dawg.
