Pat Riley takes an incredible shot at Duke while praising Tyler Herro

DANG PAT RILEY! While telling reporters how happy he was to add another former Cat to his roster in Tyler Herro, the Miami Heat president snuck in a shot at Kentucky’s rival, Duke.

“He’s just right on with his attitude and his approach and how much he wants to be a professional. He really is excited to be here too, so we’re happy to have him,” Riley said of Herro, whom the Heat selected with the No. 13 pick.

::Extends hand to drop mic::

“It’s not a coincidence anymore that we’re drafting all the Kentucky players,” Riley continued. “Getting rid of the Duke concept. So, that’s enough of that.

Ooooooh, SNAP!

This is almost as good as when he reminded a reporter that he played at Kentucky, not Duke, during Justise Winslow’s introductory presser back in 2015:

Pat Riley reminds reporter he’s a Kentucky Wildcat, is tired of his Duke worship

Winslow is still with the Heat, starting 52 games last season, but earlier this year, opened up earlier about some “dark times” during his early days in Miami. Hmm.

Regardless, Pat Riley for actual President.

It should come as no shock that an whiney egomaniac mentor like Coach K would produce nothing but whiney players who expect everything to be handed to them.

I was a student during Rupp’s Runts and they still are my favorite UK team and the best passing team I’ve ever watched. It was always my dream to have Pat as our UK coach.

That is my Dad’s favorite team as well, I barely remember watching them, but I do remember the passing.

They could run the fast break, and the ball would seldom hit the floor.

My favorite as well. A well oiled machine. Riley was a 6-3 forward and jumped center.

Good for Pat for sticking up for his Cats. The shot at K was icing on the cake.

In fairness, most of Duke’s players seem like good kids with a few notable, glaring exceptions. I think Pat was mostly digging their sanctimonious coach. I love Pat’s loyalty to the program and his candid remarks. It can’t hurt recruiting that someone of his caliber is high on the Cats.

It can’t hurt recruiting. AGREED. I’d bet Coach Cal called Pat today to thank him for the subtle recruiting pitch.

Drafted in basketball and football. 1x nba champion as a player 5x as a coach 3x as a GM. That’s a helluva guy to have reppin’ for the cats.

      Seriously – u EVER hear a coach imply he doesn’t like Cal’s guys? That’s a great endorsement.

Another great complementary post. That’s several in a row and I’ve been critical of you so have to give props when due. You’re great when you ignore the trolls on here.
I encourage everyone to follow the link and listen to all Pat’s comments on Tyler.

It’s nice to see a coach call out the false perception that is modern day Duke basketball. Maybe 15+ years ago when you had 3+ years to develop a guy Duke put guys in the NBA that succeeded but after stealing the credit for the one and done era he has failed at it majorly.

Herro > Miami has me all kinds of stoked. This even more so. More of La Familia in the 305 after free agency is said and done? Hope so.

And look, Riley gets paid a lot to win in Miami, to draft players and sign guys to win in Miami. This isn’t doing a favor for a friend or nostalgia for his school, he’s saying these guys are prepared for the League and ready to help him win. This isn’t a pep rally it’s business. And that’s what Cal’s created is a business opportunity for a lot of good kids.
