HarrisonTwins

Newy Scruggs, a sports anchor in Dallas, is reporting the Harrison twins’ decision will go public today. The twins’ father told Scruggs and KRIV-TV that today is the day we know if Aaron and Andrew will enter the draft or return for a second season in Lexington.

Newy Scruggs, always breaking scoop. Here we go!

UPDATE

Another Texas station is reporting the announcement will be at 1:00 pm ET.

Either way they go, good luck and thanks for the memories! That was one crazy run. Hope to see them in Rupp again, next year. I was down on the whole team, at points, last year. But I never questioned any of these kids, especiallythe Harrisons. Seem like fine young men. Pops raised them right.

If they stay, I’m pretty sure this would have to be the most McDonald’s All American’s on one college basketball team. If I counted correctly, it would be 9 (Poythress, Lee, Johnson, both twins, Booker, Ulis, Towns, and Lyles,) And then add Cauley-Stein in who could have been one.

I know but all the reporting coming out of Texas has me convinced they are gone!!!!! I have to admit 12 scholarships and 3 total guards ive never seen any team have just 3 guards .. I know we can pick someone up , but the odds that he can play valuable minutes is not likely!!

I personally am not that concerned about their decision. I am interested in what they decide, but this team will be fine with or without them. I do not believe them to be such high impact players that Ulis and Booker can’t fill in their shoes. The depth will be an issue and that is the biggest issue. That stated, Cal will add another nice guard to this team with a transfer. Next year’s team will be very good regardless of the twins.

    • Chris

Fine covers alot of ground!! If we got a good tranfer i agree!! But the only way i see us a contender for #9 is with at least 1 Harrison returning..Its just a #s game, we played 6 players at guard this year !!

Bashing the Harrison twins for their decision is disgusting and I’m not talking about those who are saying they are makig a mistake, but not attacking them personally. But people really need to realize that, if you look at the studies on the subject, there is zero evidence that staying in college improves the length and productiveness of an NBA career. For top-10 HS recruits like the Harrison twins, the evidence is pretty clear that stayng in college significantly lowers the length and productivity of NBA careers. Question: how many top 10 HS recruits on the NBA All-Star team stayed more than one year in college? Answer: 1 – Chris Paul who stayed 2.

It’s reasonable to question Aaron leaving because he will almost certainly be taken in the 2nd rd and that means that he will get paid 30k in the D-League instead of 800-900k and have less time to prove himself. On the flip side, if a player stays in college and doesn’t significantly improve, that is a massive red flag to NBA scouts. The Harrison’s will be able to make it in the NBA or they won’t, but there is no evidence for the notion that another year in school will improve those odds.

I selfishly hope they come back, but, as with Goodwin (who has done pretty well btw), I wish them the best and thank them for all the hard work they put in while they were here.

I believe their father has done a great job with those boys and I think it’s a good thing he is still heavily involved with their lives. He’s helped get them this far, why would he stop now when they are in need of good advice?

I agree. Dad seems like a good guy with the interests of his boys foremost.

    • chief_cat
      12:47 pm April 25, 2014 Permalink

I think the twins were raised to be humble and not seek the limelight themselves. I think they are that way because mom and dad raised them right. They look to their parents for guidance and, in some cases, to speak for them. I don’t believe they like the current focus that is on them. It makes the decision and announcement that much more difficult to manage. It is a distraction. Therefore dad has accepted responsibility for managing the official information from them.

Some may ask why all of the “drama” if they do not seek it. Are they really causing the drama or are they just taking the time to make the best, more well informed decision possible, while the media and fans turn it into drama? I tend to think the latter is the case. If these were my boys I would want to take all the time we needed to make the best choice. I would hope that my sons would conduct themselves as maturely as the twins have done.

Best of luck to them, regardless of their decisions.

  40. Korean Tacos
    12:33 pm April 25, 2014 Permalink

My view is that if they really wanted to stay they’d have announced already. It all seems like they were hoping some team would give them a guarantee or a scout would tell them something nice. It’s like when that buddy who you only kinda like calls and wants to hang out on Friday. You tell him you’ll let him know Thursday, cuz secretly you’re hoping someone else will call.
