One man in college basketball is worse than Briscoe at the line

tafari

Kentucky’s Isaiah Briscoe better be a big fan of Tafari Whittingham, because Whittingham is the only player in college basketball with a worse free throw shooting percentage on the season.*

Whittingham’s 32.7 percentage is just short of Briscoe’s 33.3 percent, giving the South Alabama Jaguar the title of Worst Free-Throw Shooter In America. Whittingham is 17-for-52 on the year; Briscoe has hit 18-of-54.

John Robic recently said, “It is what it is. It’s not like he doesn’t want to make them. They’re just not falling for him. He knows that he has to work on it.”

He added, “I just have a feeling that kid is going to make them when it really matters. I just have a feeling.”

Hope so.

*Min. 30 attempts because the 1-for-4 guys don’t matter.

The slew of posts you make taking UK and its players to task is endless. I wonder if you would take guest posts about your accomplishments – or lack thereof.

Sure but I don’t think anyone is interested in my accomplishments – or lack thereof

What’s the point of trotting out a story like this after Briscoe has clearly made huge strides in his shooting the last two games? He didn’t shoot any free throws the last game to see if his new shooting confidence effects his free throws now. Why not write a story about how well he’s played the last two games and how he is hitting shots now? And how huge that is going to be for the team? He goes 7-9, 5 boards and 4 assists last game, with 1 turnover. 6-10, 5 boards and 4 assists with 1 turnover the game before that. And his reward from the biggest “fan site?” A piece making fun of his free throw shooting.

i agree with all of that, and was really pleased with his improvement. he actually went 0 for 3 in the last two games from the line. what i really hope is that 3 attempts in 2 games is a sign that cal has tweaked his game to take advantage of his great ability to drive without him having to go to the line as much.

st. lou, whether your contention that there are too many negative views of the players on the blog is correct or not, this seems to be the wrong post to bring it up. we have a player who is the worst in all of college basketball at something. the. worst.

this wouldn’t be as big a deal as it is if he didn’t just happen to be the very guy cal would normally want to get fouled the most, his driving guard. because he is that guy this is one more large obstacle for this team’s success.

He has played well recently but this article is something worth reading. He is a guard, ya know, the guy who handles the ball all of the time. Can you imagine if we didn’t have Ulis? Briscoe could NEVER be in the game late. I love Briscoe and I think hes tough as nails but the fact that only ONE person in all of college basketball has a worse % from the line is pretty alarming. The post wasn’t “making fun” it was stating facts. Like I said, I love the kid and he’s going to be a huge part of our success but at 33% he can’t be on the floor late in tight games.

He only missed one last game and that’s pretty darn good. Next game he will hit them all.

He only shot one last game, and he missed it. That would be 0 percent to average with the other percentage.

To Whittingham’s credit, he didn’t play basketball until 8th grade. Before that he played soccer, a game where you don’t use your hands. What’s Briscoe’s excuse?

OK he’s shooting poorly from the line. I’ll take that every single day over a player with all the physical possibilities in the world that just doesn’t seem to care enough and disappears every other game or one who fouls out after 4 minutes on the floor. Briscoe obviously cares and brings it every single game.

    T. Whittingham of South Alabama Jaguars made 3-6 FTs last night and is now .345 on the season from the charity stripe, meaning Briscoe is now officially the worst FT shooter in the entire country.
