Old Takes Exposed: Edwards tells Maxey he’s “too small”

Back when Georgia had a lead and Anthony Edwards had a reason to be arrogant, Edwards mocked Tyrese Maxey for being “too small” to guard him.

Watch him taunt Maxey with an outstretched hand after scoring in the second half:

That was the last we’d see of Edwards’ taunting because Maxey would soon lead Kentucky to a big come-from-behind win.

Funny how that works.

A little smack talking is healthy. Plus for the best, it’s motivation!

Edwards -6, Maxey +14. Did Edwards even guard anybody? Size only matters when you try.

U know the guy Cal always talks about who if he isn’t scoring can’t have a good game, it’s all offense… that’s Edwards. He may be the #1 pick but he’s no AD. If he’s 1 it’s on offense and upside. He’s good. He’s big. He’s got great range but when u take the ball out of his hands (which isn’t easy), he doesn’t contribute more than an average player.

Not intended as a cheap shot to a kid, but when Cal says “UK isn’t for everybody”, this may be a case in point. AE will be very high NBA pick, but multiple, step back, contested 3s, aren’t on the menu at home Rupp Arena games. Just better for all parties if some kids, even very good players, go elsewhere to college. UK teaches team ball/player movement, effort on both ends of the court, and team success…..High volume shooters, yep, this probably isn’t the place for you. That no doubt is explained in detail to potential recruits. Guys on UK rosters know it and accept it. Guys recruited by UK but play elsewhere, probably don’t.
