Same reason we lose in the tournament every year, late game coaching and freethrows. We get a lead then the opposing team makes adjustments and coach cal has no idea how to score in the half court. Only reason we won the title in 2012 was because our defense with AD was great enough to make up for our terrible late game coaching.

Did you not see the stat line? 12/19 FTs. Bam, Fox and Monk combine for 13/34 with 38 pts. Outrebounded by 10, with no one looking for rebounds that didn’t come straight to them all game. No defense on last possession. That’s why we lost. The team looked tired and tight all game. Go ahead and get Cal fired like an idiot and put us in another Tubby drought.

    • AndTheDevil
      7:54 pm March 26, 2017 Permalink

You do realize we scored 90% of our points in the half court vs UCLA vs Witchita. Actually, over the last 10 or so games we scored mostly out of half-court sets. But, yeah, keep using those alternative facts.

    • A_Blue_Wildcat
      8:07 pm March 26, 2017 Permalink

@AndTheDevil Ucla played terrible defense and turned it over a lot, that was why we scored so easily. Whichita St we simply out talented, and it still came down to end.

@justaguyinthebackrow 12/19 is below 70%, that’s bad. We had a 5 point lead with 5 minutes left and couldn’t score for 4 minutes against a bad defensive team, all of which was in the half court, that’s on the coaching. I’m not saying fire Cal, obviously he’s still doing a good job but if he could draw up anything offensively to end a game we would have probably 3 titles with him by now. Look at the sheer talent we’ve had, then look at the talent we lose to.

    • AndTheDevil
      8:09 pm March 26, 2017 Permalink

Oh, so when when actually presented with facts, you suddenly go it was some other reason we bet the last two teams? What was it about the 12 games we won before that? You know the other ones we won playing defense and running have court?

    • A_Blue_Wildcat
      8:18 pm March 26, 2017 Permalink

First off, you didn’t present facts moron you presented theories as to why we beat those teams all while ignoring key factors. The previous 12 games weren’t all won because of half court offense, most of them were won because we played at a fast pace scoring in transition, out rebounded most of our opponents, and forced turnovers. None of those games came down to late half court offense in the end.

  5. BTownUKFan
    7:35 pm March 26, 2017 Permalink

Disappointed starters didn’t come to play today. Poor shooting and out rebounded by 10. Guys just didn’t seem to be mentally into until 5 minutes to go. We had a 5 point lead thanks to Isaac Humphries and we pissed it away.

Outrebounded because their big guy shoved in the back almost every time down the floor. Hell, he shoved Briscoe in the back out of bounds and they gave UNC the ball. I can outrebound Anthony Davis if I’m allowed to shove in the back

    • somerset bill
      7:55 pm March 26, 2017 Permalink

in the end this didn’t matter but the camera angle on the last nc shot showed one of the shot clocks and the ball through the net with .5 left.

    • catdaddyd

Great run. Recall at one point in the first half 4 of the starters sitting on the bench. Foul trouble and just not contributing. Monk was absolutely awful until his last two shots. Most frustrating part was being up 5 that late into the game then letting the other team go on a 12-0 run with nothing. They had been successful getting inside to some degree but they opted for bad outside shots or just to throw the ball to NC. Again, great year. Too bad most are likely moving on b/c this group could do something great with another year under their belt. Always UK first.

The refs called goaltending when the ball was outside the cylinder. The refs swallowed tbeir whistle numerous times when, in the words of Tom Leach: ” Meeks was riding him like the world’s largest jockey”….the non-calls on UNC make that fixed game from “Remember the Titans” look square.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword. That sword is experience. They had it and we didn’t. But if our baskets would have dropped it would’ve been a different story. Gotta give it up to NC, they flat out beat us. But I thank the Cats for a fun season and I’m looking forward to the next. Man if we could just get a couple guys to stick around for an extra year or two, this would be a total different story. It hurts to get so close each year and not quite get there. Same thing every year. Got beat by more experience. Our freshman starters did not come to play. And we have to start all over again next year with more freshman and will get beat again next year in the elite 8, sweet sixteen or final four. Were the refs bad? Yes. Was Kentucky up by 5 late in the game? Yes. Let’s get past the refs and look at what really caused them to lose. Up 5 and give up 12 straight and making no changes. Very poor decisions during the 3 minute drought. Maybe, just maybe, Cal SHOULD HAVE CALLED A TIMEOUT and got them to regroup. And during that 3 minute stretch Monk passed the ball to NC; the team took a bunch of outside shots vs driving to the rim, Bam was stripped……..

All of you trolls or anti UK or Cal fans can kiss my big blue ass. I would rather have got beat by 20 then lose this way with the obvious of what went on. Any coincidence that Higgins was refereeing tonight? Don’t think so and you can poin out numerous calls and no calls that showed it. Four starters with 2 fouls on the bench in first half while Bam and Fox continually get hit on shots. Remember the offensive goal tending that was too close for ant trained eye to call? Want to talk about the seeding? This team was better than NC but wasn’t given the chance to prove it. Game decided in first half for the most part. Im proud of their turnaround and the way they improved to become top 3 team in country. Just a shame it had to end this way.
