No. 8 Kentucky defeats No. 9 Kansas 71-63

With an announced Rupp Arena crowd of 24,387, the Big Blue Nation sure got their money’s worth.

In a packed house with ESPN College GameDay in town, the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats defeated the No. 9 Kansas Jayhawks by a final score of 71-63.

PJ Washington led the way with a ridiculous statline of 20 points (7-17 shooting), 13 rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and one steal.

Reid Travis also had a dominant performance, putting up 18 points (7-11 shooting) and 12 rebounds in the victory.

Keldon Johnson added 15 points (5-9 shooting, 3-4 from three) and ten rebounds, giving Kentucky the first trio of double-doubles since 2010 when John Wall, Patrick Patterson, and DeMarcus Cousins accomplished the feat.

Ashton Hagans rounded out Kentucky’s double-digit scorers, finishing with 12 points (4-11 shooting), two rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

Here is the entire boxscore:

Kentucky moves to 16-3 on the year with victories over five ranked opponents.

Go Cats.

To be fair, he’s becoming more like bigolblue every day. He used to present logical, and educated arguments for pessimism against the Cats. Lately it’s just “Cal sucks, hire Marshall County’s head coach” type drivel from him.

Bigolblue, you are part of maybe a 1% fan base that inexplicably thinks Cal is no good. The rest of us see the teams he puts together every year, we see how he gets guys to reach within themselves and find another gear. We support our team and our coach. Wins like tonight back up our claim. All you got is a poop joke that stopped being funny in middle school and yet somehow…you still think we are the idiots. It’s comical how clueless you are. You’re just bitter bro, it’s like Cal stoke your girl or something back in the day. You’ve presented absolutely zero credible arguments for your hate in all this time on here. All but maybe 4 people here, including the folks that actually write for the site, would unanimously select you as our biggest embarrassment. How does that feel? Knowing your arguments are so stupid that you’re the running joke of a sports site? We are all pretty sure that you’re likely the other 3 usernames with idiotic viewpoints too. Keep trying though, I’m sure one day you’ll stumble onto a semi-intelligent argument.

I kinda like to agree with that! I hope Herro keeps his head up though, and doesn’t let his 0-4 performance in this game effect him any further past last night. Cause we’re gonna need Him down in Vandy, and at the other several tough spots we have to still visit!

      GO CATS!!!

    • henderblue
      8:38 pm January 26, 2019 Permalink

bbb, what did you think about Herro’s game tonight? He didn’t make hard cuts or look to score. Maybe focused on defense? He did do a good job on Vick second half. Made some nice feeds to the post, but just didn’t look to score like he’s been doing last couple games. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the win. Just thought Herro off a little tonight, maybe not feeling well?

    • bigbluebanana
      8:52 pm January 26, 2019 Permalink

I feel the same hender. I thought he played hard, made good cuts, fed the post well, and played very solid defense. It seems to me the game plan was obvious to beat them inside, get a few threes in if we were open. I think he was looking to feed the bigs more than he looked to get a shot for himself, and that probably ended up being a good thing.

    Fitness advantage?
To my eyes, UK has been in far superior shape in the final 7-8 minutes of these games against ranked opponents.
Cal, knowing that, rested PJ, Travis and Ashton around the ten minute mark and put them back in with fresh legs and competitive fire.
That is an excellent indication that we can compete with anyone in the nation.
Stay healthy, keep learning and BBN will be fully engaged in March and April.
    GOOOOO improving, evolving C A T S !

If we get one win against Tennessee than we will get no worse than a 2 seed (pending we take care of business the rest of the way) of we get two wins against Tennessee we probably get a one seed if we lose both to Tennessee that we likely end up with a 3 seed.

    • KYjellyRoll
      8:27 pm January 26, 2019 Permalink

I’m saying he’s a streaky passer lol. You’ll see him make a no-look backdoor pass, then a play later he turns it over by trying the simple pass

    • IrishCat
      9:03 pm January 26, 2019 Permalink

He seems to struggle most on the basic entry passes. When he’s moving and in the flow, everything looks good. Entry passes are fixable, just needs to get a better angle.

3 players with double doubles will = a win 1000% of the time . Woohoo nice . Tennessee is scared of us rn . They’ve been trying to lose a game in their last 3 outings . Uk can help em out with that

As noted elsewhere, the bench made numerous other significant contributions but they were consistent.

The bench didn’t get very many minutes tonight according to the box score . Despite that nick had 5 blks but Q didn’t hit anything tonight would be the only real quam .

Program first is kinda like a job your employer pays you to perform for them not yourself if you don’t like what they expect from you then leave The program gives these kids a free education and a opportunity that most kids don’t have if they can’t play for the program then just like someone who doesn’t like or appreciate their job they can leave.

    • michaelb
      10:24 pm January 26, 2019 Permalink

He wants to keep him engaged . It’s easy for somebody struggling to develop to just check out mentally and feel left out & he doesn’t want that to snow ball into a transfer . He’s got super potential just like Ashton did/does. Coach wants him to pop out on the other side and kick ass like Hagans did .
