NCAA hands out two more transfer waivers

The NCAA continues to hand out waivers to players hoping for immediate eligibility during the 2020-21 college basketball season.

This morning, the NCAA granted immediate eligibility to two more players, adding to the growing list of players to receive waivers this offseason.

According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Southern Utah’s Aanen Moody and North Florida’s Alonde LeGrand both received their waivers and will be allowed to play right away this season.

Moody, a transfer from North Dakota, put his name in the transfer portal back in March and committed to Southern Utah on April 13.

A little over three months later, the Dickinson, ND native was granted a waiver.

As for LeGrand, a transfer from Detroit Mercy, he put his name in the transfer portal on March 15 and announced his commitment to North Florida on April 29.

Almost three months later to the day, LeGrand has been deemed immediately eligible.

News of both waivers comes just a day after the NCAA granted Ian Steere’s waiver request to play this season at UNC Wilmington. Steere, a former four-star center in the 2018 recruiting class, started his career at NC State before transferring to St. John’s. After becoming eligible back in December, the 6-foot-9 forward played just five games before being suspended the remainder of the year for “failing to meet standards expected from a member of our basketball program.”

While all cases are different, the NCAA continues to hand out waivers this offseason with little resistance.

Will the NCAA have the same leniency with Kentucky center Olivier Sarr?

All these being granted while UK and Sarr wait. It’s pure freaking BS. You can also have superstar QBs transfer, instantly play, and totally change a team such as Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts. But evidently a senior who was going to the draft but was talked out of it by his coach who was fired directly afterwards….hmmm we’ll have to think about it….probably not. Makes me sick

Emmert has been vindictive towards Cal ever since the Terrance Jones incident when Emmert was president at U Washington.
Not only unqualified to head up the NCAA but way over paid, and doing a terrible job.

Has there been any word on Joey Gatewood’s request? If not, that means that the 2 remaining highest-profile decisions just happen to both be UK transfers.

Juzang got his immediately and his was the weakest reason. The NCAA is dragging their feet on purpose when it comes to UK.

Almost August now just approve all waivers and focus on the big picture, which is laying down the hammer on Kansas,Louisville, Arizona, LSU .

Read the article boys it said a little over 3mos when the decision was made and it hasn’t been 3 mos yet .

I read it. My point was that the last 2 huge dominoes to fall will involve players coming to Lexington.

Vitale tweeted on June 13: “BBB @UKCoachCalipari told me tonight that all the paper work for OLIVIER SARR has been submitted to @NCAA for a waiver to be eligible instantly.”

I know time has slowed considerably during the pandemic, but that was only one and a half months ago. As Jack reported above, it took Moody and LeGrand three months to get their waivers. And Sarr is the highest-profile basketball transfer. We shouldn’t expect an immediate Juzang-like response. So it’s not yet time to bitch about how long it’s taking, and it’s still too early to reveal your neurotic NCAA/Emmert paranoia.

If the NCAA grants UK’s application in the next 6 weeks, which would be consistent with the cases Jack is reporting, how many of you will stand up and say you were wrong? Anyone? Bueller?

I will stand up front and center and say, “Damn, that’s a pleasant surprise that I didn’t see coming and all of my pessimism was all for naught.” With that being said, I will be done the second one of them takes a knee.

How many times do you need to let everyone know you are done if they kneel? No one asked and frankly no one is gonna miss you.

I’m not going to be surprised if they deny Sarr’s waiver at this point. Emmert has is out for UK and all this time it has taken to review the case while granting other lower profile waivers…its total BS. It’s a game to the NCAA. Not about student athletes or right or wrong. They don’t like Cal, and UK. Wear your masks either way some we can see this team play!

As was said above, it hasn’t been quite as long as the others. I will be pleasantly surprised IF the waiver for either Sarr or Gatewood is granted though. And, again, the first time a Kentucky athlete takes a knee I am done.

I wonder if there’s a way to see the total number of athletes transferring from this past season. I’d like to see the total number of transfers (And maybe the date each player submitted their paperwork) and the current number of waivers that has been approved/denied up to this point. It might help put things in perspective, but then again it might not…. Hell, it might make things even more confusing, but I think the NCAA should have a link on their website where you can go to see those type of things and numbers. The one thing the NCAA should be that everyone knows they arent (Other than hypocrits) is Transparent.

Too many conspiracy theories out there already. Let’s not dream up one on UK getting hosed by the NCAA. Keep the faith! Sarr will be a Cat, and a great addition. I envision him being the first one on the ladder cutting the nets as UK adds #8.
