NBPA Names Karl-Anthony Towns as Best Rookie of 2016

The National Basketball Players Association announced the Players Voice awards via Twitter today and former Wildcat Karl-Anthony Towns took home the Best Rookie award. No shock there, but still a cool honor for Towns nonetheless. When the NBPA announced the award, the @TheNBPA twitter account tweeted a video with several NBA players giving some love to KAT, including Chris Paul, Andre Iguodala, and Jalen Rose, among others. Towns describes his feelings on winning the award at the end of the video by saying, “It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to hold this award. It means the world because when your colleagues respect you, its a huge privilege and huge honor.”
Little time in the league. Huge impact. The #PlayersVoice Award Best Rookie goes to @KarlTowns.https://t.co/pRvhBcICrf

Another former Wildcat picking up a Players Voice award from the NBPA was Anthony Davis, who was voted as the 2016 Teammate of the Year for the New Orleans Pelicans. In a season riddled with injuries, in which his team didn’t make the playoffs in a loaded Western Conference, it is great to hear that the superstar Davis is still the fantastic teammate he was at UK. Did you know he took the 5th most shots on the 2012 National Championship team…?

nice way to present that rookie award. it’s not just one more rookie of the year trophy on your crowded shelf when it comes with a video of a bunch of guys you look up to stating the qualities that make you the best.
