Nate Sestina earns CATSPY Award for Best Supporting Role

The CATSPY Awards, UK’s celebration of its student-athletes and athletics programs, is currently underway in a week-long virtual edition of the awards ceremony. Today the winners of the Supporting Role Award were announced and UK men’s basketball’s own Nate Sestina was among the four recipients of the award. He joins Jaida Roper of UK women’s basketball, Chase Lane from swim and dive, and Hailey Poland from gymnastics in sharing the honor.

After Sestina’s one season in Lexington was cut short, John Calipari said, “Nate had an unbelievable season and helped us achieve the level of success that we did. He improved in so many areas and showed great veteran leadership through actions and performance. Our guys absolutely loved him.

“I’m going to miss seeing him in the gym every day but there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s helped himself and will have opportunities professionally if that’s what he chooses.”

Congrats to Nate. It’s too bad we didn’t get to see him win a title.
