More good news coming?

The rumor mill is grinding, and although UK says no press conference is scheduled for today, another press release could come at some point. Kyle Tucker said he’s hearing more good news is on its way:

Adam Zagoria later tweeted that UK may send out a press release, but “nothing groundbreaking,” according to a source.

And now, we wait…

Only person everybody’s sure will go pro is Randle, so the others are all still up in the air. Would be nice if Dakari and the Twins both say they’re returning. I’m guessing Alex comes back anyway, as he’s a good student and could still increase his draft status easily. Young’s case is a bit tougher with his draft position.

    11:23 am April 15, 2014 Permalink

I can only interpret this to mean the Twins. We are under the understanding that Julius and James are gone no matter what, so that probably isn’t who this is about. Dakari and Poythress have been considered “expected to come back” so the only news would be no news or bad news. The only good news could come from the Twins. Boom. 40-0.

Oh lord…regardless of who comes back this team will be no better than they were this year. You are not going to replace the likes of Randell with twenty 7 footers! Only one can play at a time and none are close to being at his level. Plus, they still wont be able to hit a free throw

    • Mc
      11:47 am April 15, 2014 Permalink

Who’s Randell? Also Lyles and Towns are skilled and versatile enough to play inside or out. Randle was a pit bull, and a great rebounder. I have a strange feeling that Lyles and Towns are solid from the free throw line. With Towns ability to shoot 3’s, and WCS’ athleticism more than 1 can play at a time.

    • L1C6
      11:51 am April 15, 2014 Permalink

Lordy…I agree that we shouldn’t talk 40-0 but to say this team will be no better than they were last year is absurd. Most players get better w experience, and the twins fall into this category, as evidenced by their play in the tourney run. The twins aren’t the only ones, just using them as an example. So even if Randle, Young, and Dakari go, the experience the other guys have makes them a lot better than they were when we lost 9 games.

I watched Lyles play a few times this year, he shoots well from the 3 point line and shoots well at the free throw line.

With the bigs we already have returning plus Poy that does make us absurd by any other standards. They also mentioned nothing ground breaking. At this point in the decision process do you really think the twins young or randle would really use that short of time to decide to come back?

I would say good sign as well. Good find. I can see a bit of truth from this as WCS is no where to be found on the board. He was a solid first rounder, but taken off because he made his intentions known to come back? Maybe they have done the same to Twins, Dakari and POY. I feel this is our returners.

What makes you think they won’t. Randle was a beast but randle was just one guy. It took the team to get to where they was. Stop the friggin negativity you IDIOT!!! You don’t know basketball. Bc if you did, you would know that karl towns is a 7 footer who can play post, he’s strong. He can guard a lot of positions. He also can stick it from 15 foot and out. Trey lyles is a baller. Both guys are shot blockers. Randle will be missed alot. But to think that his void won’t be filled with who’s coming is ridiculous. You must be a louisville fan. Or just a hater. Maybe you should learn how to spell a players name (RANDLE) before posting pimp. Have a good day.

I know I’m gonna catch a lot of crap for saying this, but it’s what I’ve thought all season: Not a Randle fan. Yea yea yea, double double night after night for a lot of the season. BUT for every double double, how many times did the dude try to barrel his way to the basket with 2-3 guys on him. He’d walk, turn it over, or have the ball stripped from him. It negated the good things he did. Other than the trny. free throws were horrible. I will take Willie coming back any day to Randle staying. He’s been NBA bound since the day he arrived. Fine with me. I think Dakari has so much growth to do, that another year and he could be a huge lottery pick. Not so much now. He only performed well the last 4-5 games. In other words, none of them should be going. They are so green. But let Randle go on.

      12:37 pm April 15, 2014 Permalink

You are 100% crazy. The guy was learning how to play and doing what his coaches told him to do. Randle was amazing. He’s one of the few guys that could take on 3 people. No one could stop him if he wanted to score. That’s rare. We will miss Randle but have plenty coming back to fill the void.

    • Mc
      12:37 pm April 15, 2014 Permalink

I think the best opinions about Randle come from those that have to play against him.

    • Musehobo
      1:05 pm April 15, 2014 Permalink

You’re not crazy. You just don’t know anything about basketball. I don’t even know where to begin to counter all that. So I’ll just keep it at a few turnovers are not > hustle, rebounding, finishing strong at the rim, giving %110 all the time, NBA body, and being a good, coachable player. Unlike some of our players, his high draft stock isn’t based on potential. It’s based on actual dominance, sometimes with 2-3 players on him. You really have no eye for basketball talent.

Wonder who Johnson has been talking to? He could not get minutes here so he thinks he can play in the NBA? He must be on Meth? Guy is slow and has no hands, he can only score from 2 feet in, cannot guard anyone and the only reason he got any PT was because of Willie getting hurt. Some others are going to get their feelings hurt if they go pro!

    • inlinefor9
      1:33 pm April 15, 2014 Permalink

Dakari is a traditional big man and they are still highly successful in the NBA. He took Willie’s starting spot half way through the season. His defense was not great this year because he is a step slow and our defense was based on switching everyone. He establishes great position inside and has good post moves. He’s also extremely young. He would benefit greatly from a second year and end up as one of the nations top big men.

This is to take nothing away from Willie, but you must have not watched the team from January through April. Dakari wouldn’t be drafted based on where he is today, but if he progressed at the speed he did at UK from late January to April, he would be a big contributor to a team by his Soph year. If he stays another year, he could be a starter immediately in the NBA.

  31. ....seriously
    1:21 pm April 15, 2014 Permalink

Dakari got the PT because he worked for it. When he started, it wasn’t because Willie got hurt. Willie didn’t get hurt until the Tourney and Dakari was playing long before that. Dakari played because he brought energy. Something this team lacked at times this season. That type of mentality is infectious as we saw from the Tourney run. Dakari can play, but he can improve. Everyone can always improve. Question is playing time next year on a loaded front court vs. taking the money and running. Already have Willie, Lee, Towns, Lyles. Probably have Poythress as well. That is a pretty big team. Plus, it bodes well for the big men if the new assistant is who they say it is because he is a big man’s best friend. With all that said, I hope that Dakari comes back because this year when the twin towers were in the game at the same time, great things happened.

Big question for me is whether Cal will expand his rotation to accommodate all these guys. They will be two and sometimes three deep at most positions. We looked horrible for the entire season because the kids were doing what the coaches wanted. It was insane. Put your head down and drive into the middle of the lane. If I were the refs watching this, I would stop blowing the whistle just on general principle. I agree with crazy. Randle was only doing what they asked him to do when he was a turnover machine. This was a wasted regular season and it was on Cal. I love the man but I really hoped he learned something from the regular season.

      2:49 pm April 15, 2014 Permalink

Wasted regular season? You’ve GOT to be joking. Without the regular season losses and heartaches, we don’t beat Wichita State. Randle developed just like every other player does under Cal. Kidd-Gilchrist had some very rough games where he would drive into the paint head on and come up with nothing. He learned how to deal with that, just like Randle learned how to deal with it and use the drive to free up the perimeter for the extra pass, which is exactly what he started doing before the NCAAT. You’re insane if you think that the coaches “wasted” a regular season. That’s honestly about the stupidest thing I’ve heard all day.
