Monk at 7-to-1 odds for AP Player of the Year

KSR-6041

Despite his inability to rebound or play defense, Malik Monk is still one of the best players in all of college basketball.

Kentucky’s star freshman currently sits just outside the Top 10 in scoring with 21.9 points per game (best in the SEC) and his 3.2 three-pointers per game also has him among the best in the nation.

That insane scoring ability is why Bovada currently has Monk fourth in its race for the AP Player of the Year Award with 7-to-1 odds he takes the trophy. Only Frank Mason, Josh Hart and Lonzo Ball are more likely to win it, according to Bovada’s odds:

Player Odds
Frank Mason, Kansas 5/2
Josh Hart, Villanova 4/1
Lonzo Ball, UCLA 6/1
Malik Monk, Kentucky 7/1
Justin Jackson, North Carolina 15/2
Luke Kennard, Duke 12/1

Finish strong, 5.

Says a lot about the state of college basketball doesn’t it?

WOW! 7-1 playing on just one end of the floor!! Imagine what his odds might be if he played both ends.

His ability to laugh off the opposing fan’s taunts puts him a notch ahead of the field, imho. Only Boogie had that skill at this point in his career.

Extremely talented, but a very incomplete, basketball player.
I grow tired of Cal’s empty threats to bench him for not rebounding. He played
    36 minutes against LSU.
Kid is going to get a multimillion $$ contract. Cal is not going to do anything but play him.
Player first. Team goal aka national championship is secondary.

Completely agree, we’d have a much better chance at a title if he’d bench Monk.

Playing your best players is playing favorites? And exactly who should he play instead?

Hawkins plays D and rebounds. On an off night, Monk is a liability since his shot selection can be so bad.

When do they release NIT bracketology? That’s where this team is headed

Not if, but when they lose to Arkansas they will be out of Top 25 for good. We don’t need to worry about rankings. Need to worry about missing tournament.

I think they will have 9-10 losses before selection day and be a 7-10 seed. No im not a Cards fan. Our resume is poor. 3-4 really bad losses and 1 decent victory. If more teams keep losing 5-6.

Our football program stinks and will always stink. Who would want to play for us? It gets old that kids say the school they decommit from is a top their list. Just shut up and say I will NOT be going to UK

Here comes another 2-10 season everyone. I predict 3 straight seasons without an sec win. Next years team may even be worse than this team. Everyone thinks barker is the golden child savior. Hilarious

We suck so bad in football I really forgot that we were even playing a game at all until about 9. We are pathetic in every way possible. From the coaching to the players this football program is pathetic. Can we just take football away from the university It is pointless to play. The only thing our football program is good at is making a bad name for the university and making any team look awesome, How sad is it when your team cannot even win a conference game in 2 seasons. Absolute joke. laughing stock of all of football

I’d be very surprised if he won it. His refusal to play defense or get rebounds will be the reason he doesn’t get it.
