Monk and Gabriel held their own shootaround Saturday morning

While Big Blue Nation slept soundly in their expensive Nashville hotel beds this morning, Malik Monk and Wenyen Gabriel were up early and at the arena.

John Calipari confirmed that his two slumping freshmen wanted to hold their own shoot-around, so a staff member drove them over to the arena and they got some shots up at 7:00 am. Meanwhile, the rest of the team stayed back at the hotel without a pregame shoot-around, as they did yesterday and in other noon games earlier this year.

When asked about the early alarm, Monk said he “gets in a better flow” when he shoots hours before a game and he will do it again tomorrow before yet another noon tip-off. That sounds like a good plan.

Monk wants to win. In the flow of the game, there aren’t many college players that can score in bunches as well as Malik. Both he and Fox are very competitive. Either of them can take over a game.
