Mitch Barnhart says UK has not been contacted about the recruits in the UofL scandal

The UofL scandal is everywhere, so much so that Mitch Barnhart was even asked about it during this morning’s press conference about game day procedures for the Thursday night game against Auburn. According to the Courier-Journal’s Jon Hale, Barnhart said UK has not been contacted as part of UofL’s internal investigation about the recruits who allegedly received “impermissible benefits” from 2010 to 2014. Understandably, Barnhart told Hale he did not want to get into the UofL news, but said he hoped the allegations are not true.

Now, you may be asking why UK could be contacted about this. Several of the recruits that were mentioned by Katina Powell in “Breaking Cardinal Rules” were also recruited by and took visits to Kentucky, namely Antonio Blakeney and Montrezl Harrell. Blakeney, who mysteriously committed to Louisville on an official visit to only decommit ten days later, may be the smoking gun in the entire scandal. Powell claims Louisville staffer Andre McGee hired her to provide hookers for Blakeney and his dad at the Embassy Suites on their official visit, and even provided a screenshot of a text message exchange between one of her employees and Blakeney referencing the meeting and a copy of the receipt for a wire transfer. Blakeney was interviewed by the NCAA regarding the matter last week.

This is too fun.

I will never let this happen again. It’s time I take one for the team. I’m going to remove the dentures and get to work. At least I won’t have to worry about someone keeping their mouth shut. Except me of course.

I see Matts line is that Rick doesn’t survive this but my question is why isn’t this something Jurich is on the hot seat over? He created this culture with the hires of Petrino and keeping Pitino….I have to think its more of a product of the atmosphere Jurich created.

Personally, Jurich is far more abhorrent to me than Pitino. Pitino actually has accomplished notable things in his life from hard work and talent, regardless of my distaste for his personal (lack of) moral attributes.
Jurich has achieved his position by sheer arrogance and bullying and has made the entire administration
at UofL his personal sock puppets. Integrity is not in Jurich’s lexicon.
Maybe Jurich to Texas is a possibility. The state of Kentucky would be a far better place immediately upon his departure.

I am a confessed hater of all things UofL. And I think if all this turns out to be true, then they should certainly be severely punished.

But I think how people react to other’s misfortune says a lot about them. So, Mrs. TT, when you post “this is too much fun” then you lost a lot of respect from me. If KSR wants to report on the book or whatever under the guise that it’s news, then I get that. But when you delight in the misfortunes of 17/18 year old kids getting caught up in this slimy mess, then you have zero class.

Lighten up man, it’s not like she’s laughing at someone’s funeral. It’s not so much a misfortune…it’s more so a dumb set of decisions made by a very dumb set of people. And we get to bask in our rivals going down when they are just dying to see something go down here. Karma is a beautiful thing! But for the time being, why don’t you get some alone time with your wife and loosen up a bit. No need to hate on Mrs. TT.

I understand your point, but for those of us that have had to put up with the Calipari bashers on a regular basis for the last 6 years this is karma. The whole “cheatapari” and vacated victories and all that nonsense dumped on UK fans by UL has been obnoxious. It’s funny, they talk about the great ACC but Syracuse is currently on probation, Miami just came off probation, the whole UNC academic scandal, Maryland bolting for the Big 10 and all the nonsense that has gone on at FSU says alot about the ACC and their tolerance for miscreant behavior.

I think it’s more in the manner of having fun with the University of Louisville rather than the 17/18 year olds receiving the oral commitments for their oral commitment.

I think the blame is solely on those within the school that allowed this to happen, and not the kids.

Although maybe I’d feel differently if these 17/18 year olds were taking money illegally.

I guess I don’t know whether to feel bad or not for these recruits then. If only she would have kept her mouth shut.

Let me be straight here: The fact that Powell pimped out her underage daughters is awful and disgusting. Reading her description of how some of the recruits were totally shell shocked and uncomfortable with the situation is also sad. However, if you’re expecting me not to laugh and take some delight in the fact that a hooker ring could be what takes down a holier-than-thou program like Louisville, you’re probably reading the wrong site.

UK grad 78– you are old enough to have grandkids. How would you feel if your son or grandson’s photo was published in this book? Think it would be funny if he just honestly went on a D-1 visit and unwittingly got caught up in this crap?

BtownUKfan– I hear the Cheatapari crap too. So point at the scoreboard and point out Cal’s wins vs. UofL since he’s been at UK. Why do people sink to their level unless you’re no better?

Mrs TT — so in your first 3 sentences you lay out reasons why this is a sad, sorry situation, but then you say you can’t be expected not to laugh about it? Says as much about you (or more) than it does about UofL, Andre McGee , or Powell herself. If you don’t get that, then you are absolutely right… I am at the least reading the wrong site.

Can we please stop pretending like these guys were a bunch of innocent virgins who were debauched against their will?? No one forced any of them to engage in coitus with prostitutes; it was their choice to do so. Some of them engaged in this with their own fathers.

Is UL really holier-than-thou or just morally bankrupt and inherently corrupt? Starting from the Board of Trustees to Ramsey to Jurich, the slime flows downhill. Actually, maybe even uphill with recent ruling by AG Conway that Gov. Beshear can’t just replace trustees with his donors (in addition to ignoring mandated racial make-up). The crimes, hush money and graft prevalent in the administration/academic side create an environment where Hurrt, Pitino, Petrino, Hermann, hookergate all just seem like amateur hour. There are many good people teaching, working and studying at UL. They, and the city and state, deserve far better.

Get a grip man……this is absolutely funny.

In hind sight Russ smith and Siva were Louisville’s best ball handlers.

If they are in a pic in the book it’s because they choose to be involved in the circus. What parent would let their child go to UofL anyway for bball if they were a good player

Truth be told, I don’t feel sorry for these poor kids ” Kids getting caught up in this slimy mess”. They CHOSE to be a part of it. You have to know that the types of kids drawn to a program that facilitates this sort of environment, are there for a reason. They want to be there. Period. Look at the mess that has been the UofL basketball/football program over the last several years. No program is perfect, but this is beyond ridiculous.

Been in Louisville a longtime. There is an inner city cultural component that has always been a part of UL athletics even when Denny was there. These people attach themselves to the program in ways that make it difficult to get rid of them.

This culture is there because Pitino knows about it, and simply says keep my name out.
He’s not getting top recruits and his assistants are accepting of anything King Rick wants.

The athletic department deserves to be cleaned out of this type of behavior. Still waiting for Petrino to display his shock and awe to all this.

Since Blakeney was interviewed by the NCAA last week, we are sure to hear more about all this in the coming weeks.

Andre McGee wasn’t even employed at UL when Antonio Blakeney committed during an official visit.

So what you’re alleging is they McGee recruited for UL while employed for another school. The bullcrap is so deep in this it’s not even funny. And you guys are lapping it up.

what we are alleging is that UofL paid for hookers for players. And it’s pretty clear they did. Keep hoping Cal gets caught doing something, while your banner is the one in jeopardy. Our players are washing feet of people other countries, yours are waxing hooker asses.

Part of me hopes the NCAA lets them do whatever they with their current players (underage recruits are obviously out and off limits on this matter, there can be no question about that). The rivalry has been a lot more fun in the last few years because little brother finally started playing on a high level consistently. While we still usually win, the games are a lot closer than they used to be.

The NCAA does need to vacate all of the wins from 2010 back though, meaning Calipari is officially undefeated against UL in his tenure at UK.
