Missouri’s Michael Porter Jr. cleared to play

Michael Porter Jr. is cleared to play basketball again after sitting out all but two minutes of his highly-anticipated freshman season up until this point.

The projected NBA lottery pick met with a back specialist in Dallas on Thursday, and now he is ready to resume basketball activities with Missouri.

Missouri’s next game? Kentucky, of course.

It’s unclear if he’ll actually play on Saturday, but odds are pretty high Cuonzo Martin will give him a look. Porter Jr. has been working out and recently said he hopes to get some game experience before the NCAA tournament, which says he’s anxious to get on the court.

With this new development, there will be a whole lot of eyes on Rupp Arena in two days.

Not only will he play, he’ll probably score the most points in Rupp Arena history.

No, the guy will not be in game shape, hasn’t face a defense like UK is playing right now, and will be a massive defensive liability. Let’s hope he pulls a Trae Young and shoots his team straight into a loss.

Unless he’s the next Lebron James there’s no way he plays on this little of practice and conditioning and actually makes a large contribution. Now that being said im sure he will go for 40/15

But, of course he’ll play; but, what kind of shape could he be in…tough to work out with a bad back.

He’s crazy if he plays. He’s projected as top 5 pick. He can only hurt his draft position, or worse hurt his back again.

it’s a good point. I’d say he’ll sit out the rest of the year.

He’s a kid who loves basketball and just wants to play…. the game could use a lot more guys like him

And if he gets hurt, it was a dumb decision he made. I respect the fact he wants to play, I don’t respect his decision-making for his future if he does. You can play basketball later this year and make millions GUARANTEED.

I say good for him. It’s easy for us to try to yell sour grapes but think about the kid for a second. Plus, without any real time for him to get acclimated to the team or shake off the rust from his long layoff, I don’t know that having him back will really swing the game one way or the other.

I wouldn’t be surprised it Joakim Noah is cleared to play for Florida next week.

It’s hard to tell…If he were cleared to play and played for Cal, he MIGHT play 8-10 minutes, if at all. But, with Cuonzo, who knows? He could start Saturday. I don’t really expect him to be much of a factor regardless. He may very well be a generational-type talent, but he’s played 2 minutes. He’ll be thrust into competition with teams that have had 4 months of practice and game experience. I honestly don’t expect to see him, but it’ll be interesting. I’ll be in Rupp for the first time since 2013, so I’m excited regardless.

Said this when the last post went up about this, but here’s my dream scenario: Porter comes back, Mizzou gets in to the tourney as a ten seed or so, and gets Duke in the second round right as Mizzou and Porter are really clicking. Ha!

If the coach really cares about his players more than his resume, he will not take a chance on him getting hurt and damaging his future. Before he became bigger than life itself, in his own imagination, Pitino done the right thing back in the day in a similar situation. Derek Anderson made the quickest known recovery to that date, at that time, from his ACL injury and was actually cleared to play as well for the NCAA tournament that year. He made the correct decision not to play him and take a chance on his NBA future. Only thing that would validate him playing is for Missouri to win the NCAA. Anything less than a title and there wouldn’t be enough reason to take a chance b

Who cares. Our team is now being protected by Cal.

Days of a rotation are over. If you can’t play, “he can’t hide you.”

Porter playing could easily put Mizz into a rotation/chemistry conundrum. He’ll likely also be gassed early (think Jarred Vanderbilt).

Plus, his weak back won’t last 1 half with JV climbing his vertebrae for a double double offensive rebound.

I want him to play! C’mon, like he’s gonna hurt us in what amounts to his first college basketball game. Bring it! Mizzou would be more effective without him.

Good for him. Maybe, not good for Missouri? The kid will be overwhelmed, just putting it fairly. You could go on and say he will be bullied, harassed, outmatched, exposed…the list goes on. Hope he can put up a fight with his hands so full with these U.K. Guys firing like they are at the moment. Go cats. 88-74 UK

Better sit out 1 more game sir or I’m afraid you’re in for a very rude awakening. You and the rest of your teammates, that is. Cats by 15!
