Minnesota Timberwolves draw No. 1 pick in NBA Draft Lottery

The lottery is set for the 2020 NBA Draft. Tonight, the league revealed the results in a virtual broadcast and the Minnesota Timberwolves scored the No. 1 pick. Here is the order:

1. Minnesota Timberwolves
2. Golden State Warriors
3. Charlotte Hornets
4. Chicago Bulls
5. Cleveland Cavaliers
6. Atlanta Hawks
7. Detroit Pistons
8. New York Knicks
9. Washington Wizards
10. Phoenix Suns
11. San Antonio Spurs
12. Sacramento Kings
13. New Orleans Pelicans
14. Boston Celtics

Potential No. 1 picks include James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards, Obi Toppin, and LaMelo Ball. Here’s where Kentucky’s draft hopefuls landed in ESPN’s latest Top 100 prospect rankings:

  • 15. Tyrese Maxey
  • 52. Immanuel Quickley
  • 54. Ashton Hagans
  • 58. Nick Richards
  • 69. Kahlil Whitney
  • NR: EJ Montgomery

Earlier today, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the draft — currently scheduled for October 16 — could be pushed back even further to coincide with a potential delay in free agency. Similarly, the NBA had been targeting December 1 as the start date for the 2020-21 season, but commissioner Adam Silver told Rachel Nichols they may push it back too in hopes of getting a vaccine and having fans in the stands.

“I think our No. 1 goal is to get fans back in our arenas. … So my sense is, in working with the Players Association, if we could push back even a little longer and increase the likelihood of having fans in arenas, that’s what we would be targeting.”

My thoughts exactly. Potential instant scorer off the bench. Plus, Hayward is having a hard time staying healthy so they are definitely in need of another ball handler.

This means that either Ball, Edwards,or,Toppin are going number one. MIN’s biggest need is a true 3rd scoring option preferably on the wing which will allow for Levine to be the player he was during his first 3 years in the NBA when he was tearing up the league. LeMello Ball could very well end up #1 but I think they go Anthony Edwards out of Georgia. However don’t be surprised if Obi Toppin ends up going #1. James Wiseman is going #2 to the Warriors which help fills thier biggest need which is athletic scoring PF/C. CLE go with Ball if he doesn’t go #1, but if he does then they will go with Edwards with high consideration for Obi Toppin. Would not be surprised if one of these teams in top 3 traded out of thier lottery draft pick in exchange for a top tier player or package involving players and picks. Guess we will see eventually when ever the draft happens.
