Michigan State falls to Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament

And down goes yet another big dog.

In today’s 3-11 matchup featuring Michigan State and Syracuse, the Orange took care of business down the stretch to win 55-53 and sent the Spartans home crying.

Good news: The Spartans are done. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch.

Bad news: Duke’s path just opened up for (at least) an Elite Eight run, where they will likely take on Kansas.

Syracuse was the very last team to get in the Big Dance to receive an at-large bid. Now, they’re officially in the Sweet 16.

To prove just how ridiculous the outcome truly is, check out these statistics:

With the victory, Syracuse moves to 7-1 as a double-digit seed in tournament history.

Unbelievable.

Now it’s time for the Aggies to take care of business against North Carolina.

What a boring boring game. I never felt like Michigan St was a contender. Way overrated. Syracuse has an ugly game. But their ugly ass style of play puts teams to sleep.

Michigan State shot 8-37 from three. Miles Bridges was 4-18 shooting. 3-12 from the three. Syracuse zone is deadly for a team without great outside shooting.

Michigan State was 6th in the nation in 3P%. Just a terrible night where it isn’t meant to happen. Reminded me of UK vs WVU in 2010.

Hate him all you want, but he’s got a point. The difference is Izzo has had some major losses to much lower seeds. UK loses to high seeds with good players. We don’t lose to 14 seeds.

Really thought MI ST was the real deal this year. By proxy, I’m a ‘cuse follower. Didn’t deserve to be there that year. Don;t deserve a bid this year. Yet, isn’t that what it’s all about? GO TX A & M!!!! It is any team’s year. GO CATS!

Sorry Slater just saw this. Let’s start with Cal’s time at UK so we can compare two coaches at elite programs. Hardly fair to compare him to a coach who is in his 23rd season at the same program while Cal is in his 9th season at UK. But if you wish to compare the entire bodies of work I think I’ve made my case. Izzo in 23 yrs at one program should be more well established and he gets a lot of 4 yr players, which you’re a fan of, than a coach who has been to 3 different programs (however he has been successful at all 3). And don’t even try pinning the vacated games on Cal, there is and NEVER HAS BEEN ANY evidence connecting him in either case. Having said all that, here is the comparison since Cal has been at UK.

      2009–10 Michigan State 28–9 14–4 T–1st NCAA Final Four
      2010–11 Michigan State 19–15 9–9 T–4th NCAA Round of 64
      2011–12 Michigan State 29–8 13–5 T–1st NCAA Sweet 16
      2012–13 Michigan State 27–9 13–5 T–2nd NCAA Sweet 16
      2013–14 Michigan State 29–9 12–6 T–2nd NCAA Elite Eight
      2014–15 Michigan State 27–12 12–6 T–3rd NCAA Final Four
      2015–16 Michigan State 29–6 13–5 2nd NCAA Round of 64
      2016–17 Michigan State 20–15 10–8 T–5th NCAA Round of 32
      2017–18 Michigan State 30–5 16–2 1st NCAA Round of 32

      2009–10 Kentucky 35–3 14–2 1st (East) NCAA Elite Eight
      2010–11 Kentucky 29–9 10–6 2nd (East) NCAA Final Four
      2011–12 Kentucky 38–2 16–0 1st NCAA Champions
      2012–13 Kentucky 21–12 12–6 T–2nd NIT First Round
      2013–14 Kentucky 29–11 12–6 T–2nd NCAA Runner-up
      2014–15 Kentucky 38–1 18–0 1st NCAA Final Four
      2015–16 Kentucky 27–9 13–5 T–1st NCAA Round of 32
      2016–17 Kentucky 32–6 16–2 1st NCAA Elite Eight
      2017–18 Kentucky 26–10 10–8 T–4th NCAA Sweet Sixteen

This season is over for Izzo but remains to be determined for Cal, now go back and look at the teams Izzo has lost to in the tourney. Notice Izzo has no title in the last 9 yrs? It’s been 18 YEARS since he won!

  12. BigBlueNationDude
    6:50 pm March 18, 2018 Permalink

So I guess if your a 7 seed with 12 losses what kind of team are you considered? Guess thats what everyone should strive for

    • 4everUKblue
      6:52 pm March 18, 2018 Permalink

    • BigBlueNationDude
      6:55 pm March 18, 2018 Permalink

    • BigBlueNationDude
      6:59 pm March 18, 2018 Permalink

Cal vs Izzo body of work:
      Cal:
      1 title
      2 runner ups(1 vacated)
      6 final fours(2 vacated)
      Izzo:
      1 title
      1 runner up
      7 final fours
Is it me or is that similar??? Hmmmm
