Another day, another blowout for the Cats, as they put away the Puerto Rico Reserves 93-57. Alex Poythress led scorers with 15 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Marcus Lee with 14.

The Cats got off to a sluggish start, but soon found their stride behind the second platoon, aka Team 1A. By halftime, the game was already out of hand, leading to a dunk fest in the second half, with Calipari getting so excited during his interview with Jay Bilas and Jimmy Connors that he said “hump ditty ditty.”

If things couldn’t get better for the Cats, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist walked into the building during the second half, a total surprise for fans and the team. MKG told the crew on the radio that he decided to come down after watching the games yesterday, and will be with the team at Atlantis until Thursday.

As Jay Bilas put it at the end of the broadcast, “the Kentucky Wildcats are legit.” Hump ditty ditty.

1A is the group that really gets things going, but I think it’s still a great idea to keep them coming off the bench for a while. Keeps them from getting bowled over early, which the vet-dominated starters are better able to handle. Then when the starters come back in, they build on the fire the bench brought. Both squads building on each other’s momentum, this is crazy fun.

Alright I might sound nuts, but Tyler Ulis is the best player on the team. I can not BELIEVE he is Freshman, really not even that because school hasn’t started. He defines playing ‘fast and thinking slow’ as he attacks while still being able to read and probe like a 10 year NBA vet. He also changed the way UK plays defense. We all know that the Guards were not pressuring the ball like they all are now, Tyler brought that! Next best is Towns, he might be the top pick next year combine his size, post skill and we all know his shot will eventually fall, he’s to good. Marcus Lee is so much better, its ridiculous, he’s rebounding like a man and finishing strong. I do not know who is going to start but if you give Tyler 2 shooters IT’S OVER! (Not saying this should be the starting 5) But a line up of Ulis, A.Harrison, Booker, Towns and WCS would devastate teams. WCS rim protection and the ball pressure of Tyler + Shooting from the perimeter would be tough to stop.

This team cannot hit free throws. I mean…they’ll be a time when they are beating Grand Valley State by 52 and they need to hit a free throw to get the shooter off the court so they can bring in Todd Lanter…and they’ll miss. Won’t someone please think of Todd Lanter?

The biggest positive I saw in this game is that they got 21 assists – after 20 assists yesterday and 17 the day before. Granted, a lot of those were dunks but it shows that this team looks to pass before shooting. And they took a minimal number of three-point shots.

It will be interesting to see how they play if a team takes away their dunk opportunities? Perhaps easier said than done? Obviously, they are a good rebounding team once again and they are playing excellent defense, as demonstrated by the high number of steals.

The only question remaining is: Who will be the starting five once WCS and Trey Lyles join the team?

In my opinion, the best way to keep the most players happy during the season is to platoon like they are now.. From what I’ve seen so far, best guess,

Squad BIG, Dakari, WCS, Alex, the twins…
Squad Quick. KAT, Trey, Devin, Ulis and Hawk

Lee comes in for a big, Willis for a swing.

It is Kevin Connors, not Jimmy Connors. Kevin did a great job interviewing Calipari and Tyler U.
