Member of 1948-49 Title Teams Passes Away

John Stough, a member of both the 1948 and 1949 championship teams has passed away. Stough played both baseball and basketball for the Cats. According to Big Blue History, he scored 128 points over three seasons. He missed two seasons from 1945-1947, after being drafted into the United States Army.

Stough drafted a letter to Malik Monk at the beginning of the season:

The letter reads:

Dear Malik,

I was delighted to see you wearing #5 at the BB Madness. #5 was very good to me at UK. 3x SEC Basketball Championship, 1945, 1948, 1949, First 2 UK NCAA Championships 1948-1949, 2x Captain UK Basketball team, All-SEC Shortstop, SEC East Division Baseball Champions– 1949.

I sincerely hope #5 will be as good to you as it was to me.

Good Luck and Best Wishes,

John Stough #5

Our thoughts are with Stough’s family during this hard time.

    Condolences to his family…

If I were a 2X National Champion and saw the game last night…I don’t know if I could go on either after that blatant disrespect to the uniform.
