Marv Albert and Greg Anthony will call the game Saturday

With so many future pros on UK’s squad(s), it only makes sense to bring in one the top NBA broadcast teams for Saturday’s showdown. Marv Albert and Greg Anthony will call the UK/North Carolina game on Saturday for CBS. Anthony was on The Jim Rome Show yesterday, and had nothing but great things to say about the Cats. “They have been incredible defensively, about as good as I’ve seen at this stage for anybody,” Anthony said. “Not overwhelming right now offensively, but they’re young.”

When asked about the matchup between the ‘Cats and the Heels, Anthony brought up North Carolina’s offensive struggles, which sound pretty familiar. “North Carolina’s still a bit of an enigma,” Anthony said. “They still struggle at times offensively, not the type of offensive team the last couple years that we’re used to seeing from Roy Williams. Marcus Paige, a lot of people’s preseason National Player of the Year, has really struggled, Kennedy Meeks has had some moments, but I haven’t seen the kind of consistency from them that they would like.”

Do the Heels stand a chance? Only if they embrace the role of underdog. “This could be the kind of game where they put it altogether, going on the road in a hostile environment where most people aren’t expecting them to win.” Anthony said. “Sometimes the moment is what you need in terms of motivation and we’ll find out if going in to Rupp and playing the number one team in the country is what gets this team to play the type of basketball Roy Williams is expecting.”

Or not. I think not.

Does anyone else remember 2008 when Kentucky played UNC at Chapel Hill, they had a national championship contender and we had Billie G? Patterson was a freshman and Meeks a sophomore then I think.
ESPN had everybody there but the copy boy. Hubert Davis was there giggling like a little girl at everything Bobby Knight said. I think Digger and Reise Davis were there too, Vitale called the game. The hype around that game was tremendous and everyone was there to see us get massacred ….and we did although we only lost by 19 we were never in the game.

Now the tables are turned, we have the much stronger team and they put us at noon? What’s with that? I know people get tired of hearing it but there is a definite ACC lean-UK bias at ESPN and I hope we get a strong payback.

Their only hope is that Ulis and Booker are still inured meaning the twins get 30+ minutes. If that’s the case, we could lose.
