Marcus Lee is “day to day” with unspecified head injury

Joel Auerbach/Getty Images North America

A lot of you have been asking about Marcus Lee, and Kyle Tucker tweeted a mini-update earlier today I thought I’d pass along. According to Kyle, Lee is “day to day” with an unspecified head injury. The team is practicing in Los Angeles today before heading back to Lexington, but Lee isn’t expected to participate.

Here’s what John Calipari had to say about Lee’s injury last night:

“He got hit in the face. It must’ve been a pretty good whack, because his nose was bleeding and he had a headache, so we were afraid to do anything with him.”

And a screenshot of the whack:

Meanwhile, Calipari is pouncing on the loss to UCLA as an opportunity for his team to “learn”:

    No, that’s not a foul…not at all.

Like when Murray was mugged…..not a foul either…..a misdemeanor in 37 states….but not a foul.

Why won’t they be more specific about his “injury”…does anyone else think this is odd?

Pretty common trend between BCG days, Stoops press conferences and now Cal saying it. We got whipped, we need to be tougher.

Not comparing to BCG to Cal but that is what apparently all UK coaches seem to think is the reason we lose.

Looks to me he got raked across the face maybe with some fingernails. My guess is Cal is pissed about it as a dirty play and is refraining from saying anything so as not to cause an uproar.

“get back to work”; “get better”. Oh crap! Has cal been hanging around with Stoops?

Hopefully this pisses Marcus off enough to make him go into beast mode for the rest of the season.

The refs did let UCLA get away with a lot more than they let us, but I’m not really complaining about that. The truth is, when one team fights as hard as UCLA did and their opponent is as passive as we were, they aggressor team deserves to get the whistle.

Maybe Cal should put some defenders in pads and have them rough Skal up in practice to teach him to play physical? The kid can’t play in college, let alone the NBA until he learns.

I hope Cal learned to not play man to man under your opponent’s basket. We only gave up 2 layups last night. Evidently he is a slow learner as this happen every game.

The refs were really lenient to UCLA, specifically Alford. We would breathe and they would call a foul. I suspect he may not be able to say alot because of HIPPA.

They better learn. Louisville is looming and they are much bigger and better than UCLA…losing to them after all our smack talk the past few months would be far worse than the football loss.

LMAO. Cal is 7-1 versus Rick and has knocked them out of the tourney twice….

Even if UofLoL were to pull the upset, does it really matter? Its been well established that Louisville is Cal’s bitch.

Anyone else think cal was “ok” with losing last night, and kept Lee out to teach these “learned” lessons?

I suspect he kept Lee out due to concussion protocol, not to teach anybody a lesson.

I think it’s more likely that Lee got hit by Poythress’ elbow on the side of his nose as Poy flew by him chasing a rebound a minute before the “slap” (which didn’t seem to be very hard).
