LSU’s Ja’Vonte Smart, Trendon Watford returning to school

With the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline fast approaching, LSU just got even more good news.

Rising junior guard Ja’Vonte Smart and All-SEC freshman Trendon Watford will both return to LSU for the 2020-21 season. Smart shared the news on Twitter while a source informed Adam Zagoria of Watford’s intentions. Earlier today, Darius Days also announced he was withdrawing his name from the draft to return to Baton Rouge for his junior year.

Last season, Smart averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game; Watford 13.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game; and Days 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Emmitt Williams is the only LSU Tiger to keep his name in the draft. Rising senior Charles Manning (7.9 ppg, 3.2 rpg) withdrew his name back in April.

Elsewhere in the SEC, John Petty announced he is returning to Alabama for his 193rd season, Mississippi State’s Robert Woodard is staying in the draft, and we’re still waiting to hear for sure what Tennessee’s Yves Pons will do. Sean Farnham tweeted earlier that the Frenchman is coming back to Knoxville, but not so fast…

SEC Basketball really is going to mean more this year.

So Smart is implicated in the FBI investigation, with captured tapes , of Will Wade speaking, and he is still playing for LSU as a Jr with neither LSU or Wade ever being charged.
Is Mark Emmert a joke or what !!

You can possibly go in the draft if they ever have one and make some money or you can come back to LSU and definitely get paid.

Love how we fans make fun of others yet our current coach is one of a very few that has wins vacated at 2 schools. All of them cheat, have for years and will for years to come. From Izzo, to K, Roy, Cal, Wooden and all future coaches. Is part of the recruiting process.

Like clockwork. I will point out, for the thousandth time, Cal was never implicated.

I would say that the LSU coach was caught on a phone recording but then you would ask me what a phine is because your mom has never let you out of the basement to see what that ringing noise was.

In fact, both situations were such that Cal could not have reasonably prevented them. He could not be expected to monitor Camby 24 hours/day.
And, Cal could not have monitored Rose’s SAT exam from several hundred miles away. In that case, the ncaa said that Rose himself arranged for someone to take the exam for him; but hell, they never even proved that.
