Former Kentucky star DeMarcus Cousins made sure to put a major stamp on his return to Lexington. As the general manager of team Loyalty is Love, Cousins’ squad will head to Chicago as they advance into the fourth round of The Basketball Tournament.
Loyalty is Love won three games in three days, culminating with an 88-71 victory over the Fort Wayne Champs on Sunday, and are now officially the Lexington Regional champions.

Behind the three-headed frontcourt monster of Quincy Miller (15 points, 12 rebounds), Isaiah Austin (23 points, eight rebounds), and Willie Reed (21 points, 10 rebounds), Loyalty is Love was able to dominate the second half. Darius Johnson-Odom also added 18 points for Boogie’s team while former Kentucky center Daniel Orton finished with no points and only one rebound in five minutes of action.
The next round of The Tournament will take place in Chicago on Aug. 1-6 with the winner taking home the grand prize of $2 million. Loyalty is Love will face the winner of the Richmond Regional, which tips off this week. Headlining that group is Overseas Elite, the four-time defending champions at this event.
I can’t speak much for the other regions, but it would be a challenge to convince me that there is a better overall team that Loyalty is Love. They are without-a-doubt the longest of any team and arguably boast the most pure-talent. With three games in the books, the only thing still missing is chemistry, but they know it’s coming.
“We just gotta gel more,” Quincy Miller said after the game when discussing how his team can win in Chicago. “Learn each other a little bit more and really come out with intensity every single game in Chicago.”
Loyalty is Love was even missing its starting point guard, Baylor alum Pierre Jackson, but Keifer Sykes came in and more than made up for any lost production. Add Jackson back onto this roster in Chicago and they might just be the team that can finally take down Overseas Elite.
