Louisville acknowledges title is in serious jeopardy

In today’s press conference at the University of Louisville, Chuck Smrt, who Louisville hired to run its internal investigation, said publicly, “At this time we believe it could impact 110 regular season games and approximately 15 NCAA wins.”

Of course those 15 NCAA wins would include the 2012 Final Four and 2013 national championship, so Louisville is admitting and acknowledging the banners are in jeopardy.

Tom Jurich said he didn’t see this coming, adding that he thought they went above and beyond in penalizing themselves with the postseason ban.

Rick Pitino said, “I’ve lost a lot of faith in the NCAA for what they just did.”

I’m as big as a U.K. Fan as there is and this is mostly a great thing among our fan base. Something about this to me is wrong. I know strippers in dorm doing sexual acts aren’t bad, but the thing that troubles me is unc actually made fake classes that players benefited from and NOTHING hasn’t been done. Going to class is the most important thing a student athelete can do! For nothing to be done and the success they have be had in the past two years, I for the UL fan base in a way. Call me what u want but it still doesn’t change the fact that UNC has and is getting away with far worse than UL. And maybe somewhere deep down I feel sorry for a guy (Rick) that brought our fan base back to the biggest stage and say what u want, but Cal was envious of the UK job and what came with it and I believe Ricks success here in the 90s is why Cal wanted this job so bad. And I’m thankful for that. My .2

Agree, but the UNC process has not ended yet. Today gives me hope that such egregious cheating will still be punished.

I get a lot in what you say. I do.

I’m going to wait until the UNC ruling is complete and yes, it drags and drags… but I’ll reserve judgement in comparing until that day.

Just because UNC hasn’t been punished yet, doesn’t mean that U of L shouldn’t be punished for their transgressions.

I can’t help but believe that a small part of the holdup with UNC was the NCAA deciding how hard it was willing to come down on high profile programs. If the 2013 NCAAT gets vacated, I’m pretty sure it means UNC is screwed, blued and tattooed.

If “nothing hasn’t been done,” then that would mean something has been done due to that pesky double negative rule. 😀

Just got in an argument with a co-worker about ‘monitoring’. What does ‘monitoring’ look like to the NCAA? Is there an official definition, process, method, etc? Co-worker’s argument is that the coach can’t be expected to monitor everyone all the time; especially a coach like a Nick Saban for instance. My point was, yeah, but Pitino said he told his assitants to look-in on things, but when the assistants were asked, neither had ever heard of this instruction from Pitino. Therefore, no monitoring plan in place. Just curious if there is a standard monitoring method.

So Rick has lost a lot of faith in an institution that has been on blast lately for their lack of action in multiple cases. Does that mean that Rick has lost faith in his internal contacts that usually get him out of these situations?

Sock boy go get some card gear and shut the f- up.your a wind bag who worries too much about our arch rivals. Who cares about what happens to UNC as long as the cards get crushed.

According to Gary Parrish’s latest story the title WILL BE VACATED based on the comments at the press conference.

“Louisville will not be banned from future postseasons. So that’s a win. But the NCAA announced Thursday that Louisville must vacate all “basketball records in which student-athletes competed while ineligible from December 2010 [to] July 2014.” That suggests Louisville’s 2013 national championship is in jeopardy, which is something Louisville consultant Chuck Smrt subsequently confirmed. At a press conference Smrt said that players the NCAA has deemed ineligible DID PLAY in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. He acknowledged that the 2013 title WILL BE vacated unless the ruling is overturned on appeal.”

    Wow!

One would like to think that if U of L’s 2013 Championship is vacated that, henceforth, their die-hard fans would stop pounding Calipari for the vacated games/records at UMass and Memphis. Sadly, that would require a level of familiarity with logic and common sense that might be beyond the reach of their die-hard fans.

It is kind of ironic how some of their fans loved to point to Cal as the only coach to have two FF’s vacated. Now it is looking like Pitino will become the ONLY coach to actually have a championship vacated. (And BTW, that will also mean that Pitino will ALSO have two FF’s vacated. 🙂 )

    • EdC
      3:09 pm June 15, 2017 Permalink

Let’s not forget that Cal was never indicated in either of those misdeeds.

He would have to be insane to have anything to do with a player signing with an agent in secret.

The NCAA Clearing House CLEARED Rose to play at the beginning of the season. Every coach in the entire nation would have played him. The NCAA flat out screwed Memphis on that one. If they find out information after the fact it shouldn’t become the school’s problem.
