Today in “Things that make you go Hmmm”: last night, DeWayne Peevy hosted a Zoom call with Mitch Barnhart, Rick Pitino, Tubby Smith, and about 20 members of the 1996-1998 Kentucky basketball teams. Former Wildcat Cameron Mills tweeted screenshots of the call this morning and said the reasons behind it will be shared in the next few days.
So this was my evening.
Zooming with a bunch of has beens talking about how good we all were back before we were has beens. Call included about 20 players from 96-98 team, Coach Smith, Coach Pitino and @UKMitchBarnhart. Reason for the call will be shared in next few days. #BBN pic.twitter.com/ZcZZoY0vGf

The Kentucky Basketball Twitter account retweeted Mills’ tweet with the hashtag #LaFamilia.
Is a 1996-1998 team reunion in the works? Peevy is in charge of Kentucky’s scheduling and the 25-year anniversary of the 1996 championship is coming up this season. While John Calipari is notably absent from the call, the fact that Pitino made an appearance is significant. Pitino has already reached out to Cal about the possibility of Kentucky playing Iona. As for Tubby, bringing High Point to Rupp Arena would be the perfect opportunity to reunite the 1998 team and retire his jersey to the rafters.
We’ll find out the reason soon enough, but until then, I’m going to enjoy all the little details in these screenshots, like Mark Pope’s BYU background, Jamaal Magloire’s Canadian flag, and the fact that Tubby had to change locations, apparently. Check out Oliver Simmons in the Dunkaholic t-shirt!
How much would you pay to be on that Zoom call?
