Lexington to host TBT Regional, Kentucky alums re-forming team

Remember The Basketball Tournament (TBT)? Back in 2016, a group of Kentucky alums formed the Bluegrass Boys to make a run at the $2 million summer tournament but were upset in the first round. Three years later, the Bluegrass Boys are back and will serve as the host team for the Lexington Region. Games will take place July 19-21 at Frederick Douglass High School and air live on the ESPN networks.

The other host cities are Columbus, Greensboro, Memphis, Salt Lake City, Wichita, Syracuse, and Richmond. The winners of each region will meet for the semifinals and $2 million championship game in Chicago August 1-6.

“The experience of playing in front of the best fans in the country is something that our players carry with them for the rest of their lives,” John Calipari said in a press release. “Kentucky is special to every single one of them, so it doesn’t surprise me that they are coming back to compete in Lexington again. I have no doubt that they’ll feel the passion and support of Big Blue Nation – or that they’ll give that same passion back with how they compete on the court.”

Mark Krebs will serve as the team’s director again and vows the team will avenge its embarrassing 2016 loss.

The roster can include anyone without a guaranteed NBA contract. Kentucky alums on the 2016 roster included Shagari Alleyne, Ramel Bradley, Joe Crawford, Erik Daniels, and Perry Stevenson. Who would you draft for the Bluegrass Boys 2.0?
