LaVar Ball says the Big Baller Brand sneakers will cost $200/pair

Ahh, LaVar Ball, the gift that keeps on giving. After Nike, adidas, and Under Armour all passed on giving Lonzo Ball the type of shoe deal he his dad wants, his dad is moving full steam ahead with plans to create his own sneaker for his son’s rookie season under the Big Baller Brand. According to a report from The Vertical, LaVar Ball is hoping to sell the sneaker in the $200 range, making it more expensive than shoes from LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and James Harden. LOL.

Part of the reason all three major shoe companies passed on Ball is that his father wants a “co-branding partnership,” ala Jordan Brand with Nike, meaning that Big Baller Brand would operate underneath the bigger company’s umbrella. Understandably, giving LaVar that much control doesn’t seem like a wise idea, so the big three are staying away. If LaVar can’t convince any other shoe brands to take a chance on Big Baller Brand, they’ll have to make their own shoe, which has reportedly been in development for a year.

Now seems like a great time to remind you that, until this point, Big Baller Brand has only sold screen-printed tees, sweatshirts, and embroidered hats on their online store, for $50-$100 per piece.

Yeah…good luck with that.

The question is “who’s going to sell them?”

Scratch that… The better question is “who’s going to buy them??”

Both valid questions, there are several ways this product line can be launched, but due to Ball senior’s commentary it become near impossible to attract big boys of distribution online and box stores alike. So they as in Ball family has to do it all manufacturing, distribution, marketing and everything else in between. Not impossible, but highly unlikely to turn profit in do-it-yourself model.

It sucks for Lonzo that he has this jackass for a dad. And now it’s going to suck even harder for his younger brothers now that the public already knows all too well about LaVar.

I sooooo hope Lonzo is a MAJOR BUST and the other two sons end up not even making the NBA. That’d be so great. 😄😃😀

Usually you need a product before you can set a price. This is just absurd (but it is Lavar Ball I suppose). This is just someone who decided they wanted to make zillions on shoes and set a ridiculous price before he even had the shoe. What does the shoe consist of? “Not sure yet but I want to make a lot of money. Let’s sell them for $200/each.”

If he is going to sell them for $200 a pair they better have two $100 bills inside each pair.

Jordan didn’t automatically have his own brand, it takes time. And for LaVar to feel like his son is already worthy of that is pretty laughable. I mean I’m sure people want the best for their kids, but staying in reality would be a good thing for him to accept. For all he knows his son will be flop in the NBA.

Branding is a problem. Why pay $200 for part of the better business bureau’s uniform?

Lonzo should tell his Dad to make his own living and quit swinging on his jock.. It is hard to feel sorry for anyone who will be making millions a year playing sports, but if any rich athlete deserves a bit of sympathy, it very well could be Lonzo.
