Kentucky’s recruiting class is already ranked as the best in the entire country according to 247sports as the Wildcats have the slight edge over Arizona and Duke’s classes. However, recent reports have suggested that Kentucky is one the verge of landing another big-time recruit.
Jaden McDaniels is widely considered by many as a top-10 recruit in the 2019 class. Originally, schools like Washington and San Diego State (where his brother played) were considered to be in the lead for him. But now it was made public that Kentucky has covered significant ground on McDaniels.
247sports’ lead expert on the McDaniels is Jerry Meyer, and he has Kentucky as the clear favorite to land the 6’10 All American. Currently, the crystal ball prediction on the site gives the Wildcats a 85% chance at getting McDaniels, while Washington and San Diego State both just have an 8% chance.
While Kentucky is still in the lead according to this website, it is important to note that Washington isn’t as far behind as it seems. Recruiting guru Corey Evans told the Herald-Leader that he still thinks the Huskies will land McDaniels.
Either way its clear that its between these two schools as of now. As far as when the announcement will come, literally no one has a clue. McDaniels is a very private individual and often shines away from the spotlight. Most likely, he will make the announcement in an unannounced tweet in the next couple of days. The deadline to sign is May 15th, so the suspense on where he will land will not last much longer.
McDaniels would fit very nicely into Kentucky’s system has a hyper-athletic power forward. He would be an immediate starter from day one, and he would also be the most talented prospect on the team in the 2019-2020 season. Many scouts see him as a consensus top-5 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
If Calipari can pull this off, he would have one his best all-around classes during his time at Kentucky. Hold on to your butts, folks. The next few days are going to be very interesting.
