It got too close for comfort, but the Cats held on to a late lead to improve their record to 20-5.

Kentucky struggled to score, making just one field goal for a five minute stretch in the second half.  The Crimson Tide cut the lead to 6 with just 1:42 to play.  Derek Willis hit a three to provide some breathing room.  Malik Monk followed it with a strong contested finished at the rim.  De’Aaron Fox was the dagger, dunking home a breakaway bucket.

Isaiah Briscoe deserves credit for the late run.  Struggling to finish throughout the first half, when the UK lead was cut to seven, Briscoe responded by scoring seven consecutive points.  It gave the Cats just enough breathing room to close out the Crimson Tide.  Briscoe finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists.

More to come from Tuscaloosa.  Until then, here’s today’s box score.

The defensive rebounds Bricksoe got were huge. Need that from the whole team. Thought Cal said he would sit Monk for not rebounding, LIE. He did sit in 1st half cause he had 2 fouls but 1 rebound is pathetic, AGAIN. Why lie Cal, just say he won’t listen but I can’t sit him and risk losing on high profile recruits.

This is only a close game because Cal stops playing at the 8:27 mark! Run the clock down to 3 and throw up a shot. This already costs us a title with the best team in history! I am so tired of this crap! Makes me want to puke!!

D effort was better but we are not good. Will look good because of how bad Bama is on offense. Proof is the 9-26 ft shooting, even when we don’t guard them they miss 65% of the time. We still let them get to the basket alot, and I actually saw Fox set up for a charge on D help in the 2nd half BUT he then moved out of the way in typical Fox style. At least he has something to fall back on if the NBA does not work out, he can be a bull fighter.

Bama is top 25 Defense (kenpom) and a top 20 rebounding team. We played better than we have been and have been adding to each game. UT will be a good gauge for us and how far we have grown in a week.

I wasn’t actually uncomfortable that we would lose once we got to the point where fouling out wasn’t as big an issue. The officials made me very nervous through much of the game as they were not calling moving screens on them and were not consistent on both ends of the floor.

I thought the overall UK effort was actually a lot better. Rebounding was better. Fewer turnovers. A bit better on assists.

I know. It really makes me angry. We beat the spread, played with more effort and energy that was obvious. It wasnt our best game of the year, but you can tell this team wants to be better. They will get there.

Good game from the cats. Needed that one. Cal needs to stick to defense in practice. Good thing Alabama really stunk

A win on the road. Good.
    Better defense.
    Better rebounding.
I will take it and be happy all day tomorrow.
