It got too close for comfort, but the Cats held on to a late lead to improve their record to 20-5.
Kentucky struggled to score, making just one field goal for a five minute stretch in the second half. The Crimson Tide cut the lead to 6 with just 1:42 to play. Derek Willis hit a three to provide some breathing room. Malik Monk followed it with a strong contested finished at the rim. De’Aaron Fox was the dagger, dunking home a breakaway bucket.
Isaiah Briscoe deserves credit for the late run. Struggling to finish throughout the first half, when the UK lead was cut to seven, Briscoe responded by scoring seven consecutive points. It gave the Cats just enough breathing room to close out the Crimson Tide. Briscoe finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists.
More to come from Tuscaloosa. Until then, here’s today’s box score.
