As we put the finishing touches on our National Signing Day coverage of the Kentucky football program and its exciting new roster additions, it is time to begin the switch over to basketball mode because, believe it or not, there is a late night tip still ahead out in Las Vegas.
So at the halfway mark on this longest work day ever, we transition from National Signing Day to my favorite Three 6 Mafia song to the Cats’ upcoming basketball game against Utah at 11 frickin’ p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Some random notes…
— Before things get underway out in Vegas, you can tune in to the KSR Pregame Show at 8:30. It is the latest KSR Pregame Show in recorded history as we get you set for Cats and Utes in Sin City.
After the action, Ryan Lemond will really appreciate it if you stay up to give him a call on the KSR Postgame Show. It will start around 2:30 a.m. (my god) unless of course the game goes to overtime which I hope I didn’t just speak into existence. If I did… sorry, Ryan.
— Who is ready for two hours of Bill Walton soaring through an alternate universe on the wings of a tie-dyed pegasus? No longer do we have to watch midnight Pac-12 basketball to hear the Bill Walton experience; tonight we get it during a midnight Kentucky game! Walton will call the game with his longtime teammate Dave Pasch and it’s going to be a trip. I suspect Tom Leach will see a spike in his radio listeners tonight.
— If you’re like Bill Walton and need a good buzz during the game, may I recommend KSBar and Grille’s watch party. We will keep the doors open throughout the entire game (unless of course it goes to overtime in which case the city’s laws could come into play) with a late-night menu and happy hour.
You’re already going to be tired at work tomorrow, so why not make it worth it?
— One young man who is actually playing in the game, Tyrese Maxey, isn’t worried about the late start. When asked if he and his teammates are ready, he said, “Oh yeah, of course. Up all night. We’re teenagers. What are we doing, playing a game or something? We’re up doing something, so the time’s not going to do anything to us. We’re just ready to play, have a lot of fun with each other.”
— For those of you like myself who enjoy the occasional dabble into gambling on college basketball, you should know Kentucky is an 11.5-point favorite in the game. You should also know Kentucky has only covered twice in the last seven games. The total on the game is 139.
— Be sure to read our report from UK’s first practice in Vegas. Jack Pilgrim flew out early to sit in on UK’s Tuesday night practice and he recaps it all, including a very big update on Nate Sestina’s return. There is some video of the practice in there too.
— We have two nice Utah previews on the way. Refresh KSR to see those a little later.
— And with that, I’ll leave you with John Calipari’s Tuesday press conference before the team took off:
Go Cats and get ready for a long night.
