Kyle Wiltjer is (reportedly) considering the NBA

According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, Kyle Wiltjer is considering declaring for the NBA draft, which would be a bad idea.

Wiltjer, though one of the best offensive weapons in college basketball this past season, could very well go undrafted if he were to make the jump. After learning the news of Goodman’s report, draft guru Chad Ford tweeted, “Yikes! We don’t even have a draft card for Wiltjer. Never heard a scout who thought he was a NBA player.”

“Yikes” and “never heard a scout who thought he was a NBA player” aren’t positive reviews. Ford sees Wiltjer finding a profitable career in Europe, but NBA, no.

In Kyle’s defense, I’m not sure his stock will be any higher if he were to return to school for a senior season. But another year at Gonzaga to work on his athleticism and defense wouldn’t be the worst thing.

UPDATE:

For what it’s worth, Sam Malone says Goodman’s report is a blatant lie:

The same Chad Ford who said James Young was a good passed and defensive stopper?

I like Wiltjer but he’s not ready for the NBA now or probably ever…

I’ve never really thought he’ll be anything more than a Steve Novak/Matt Bonner type, but that’s not really a knock on him because there’s a place in the league for players like that — as evidenced by the fact that Novak and Bonner have been in the league for a while now
