Kyle Wiltjer has has seen two sides of the college basketball spectrum. He won a National Championship for a college basketball powerhouse at Kentucky. He finished his career on the West Coast at Gonzaga and played into the Elite Eight for America’s favorite Cinderella. He believes the underdog’s fan base is better.
“It really showed me that man, Gonzaga is in my opinion the best fan base in the country, and I’m not exaggerating at all,” Wiltjer told Spokane’s KREM 2. “The amount of love that they showed me, Domas (Sabonis) and seeing the support down there at the Final Four (in 2017), it was pretty unbelievable. And to see that it really shows a lot to the city and the city should be proud of that because it was crazy.”
Wiltjer didn’t simply forget about Kentucky. He was sure to clarify his statement.
“Winning a championship was like the craziest thing ever. And then going to Gonzaga and seeing their fan base – everywhere we go in Spokane, everyone going crazy for us. It’s obviously a little bit of smaller level, the amount of people, but the support is just as crazy.”
Many believe there is no better fan base than the Big Blue Nation. Kyle Wiltjer begs to differ. Hear the interview here.
